October 22 for store shelves. Soon there will be an option to upgrade for people that are buying new pc’s.
I think Vista users should get a discounted price as MS basically screwed us all.

I second that.
I still don’t understand how people like Ram and I have been running Vista great for years, yet everyone else seems to think it’s terrible =/
I ran it for a long time, and it was great to me. People are stupid and like to jump on bandwagons imo.
I don’t have any problems with it.
But I’m still going to dl 7 when its out.
I’ve been using the RC1 and it’s still just as fast as the early vista beta that I used to love so much, that’s why I prefer windows 7.
Are there cracks to stop the win7 beta from expiring?
Bandwagon of common sense. Vista is undeniably far less functional as an operating system than XP.
The people who are excited and optimistic about Windows 7 are exactly the same type of people who were excited and optimistic about Windows Vista.
Operating systems aren’t going to advance much further, it seems we’re already at the stage where all they can add are purely cosmetic features, and no real new functionality that can’t be achieved on older operating systems.
How is it less functional? There are a lot of things in Vista that make it far easier to use.
The Quick launch icons for example, instead of clicking you can hit Windows Key + 1 for example, and open the first quick launch shortcut. Windows Key + 5 to open the 5th, etc. I use this soooo much.
Then there’s stuff like you can right click external HDDs in My Computer and choose “Safely Remove” instead of having to open the Safely Remove Hardware window in the notifications area.
There are so many more little things like this that make Vista so much better than XP. I use XP every day at work, and Vista every day at home, and Vista is just… there’s no other way to put it. It’s just better!
Hmmmm. There will be a cheaper upgrade version for sure, but whether there will be an even chepaer upgrade for vista users has to be seen…
Not yet, it doesn’t expire for a year, but there will be ones.
I’m running Vista ultimate on my desktop and 7 on my laptop, and I have to say I prefer the Windows 7 RC. I’ve used vista previously, didn’t enjoy it, went back to XP, then when I got this desktop, went with Vista again.
Windows 7 RC1 is set up very well, it works well, it’s fast (although you can’t really compare my desktop to my laptop), the new taskbar works well. I thought I’d hate the new taskbar, but it’s surprising how well it works.
And it’s pretty.
It’s not that I don’t like Vista, I really do. It’s just that it doesn’t seem right for Microsoft to essentially re-package vista and sell it as a different OS. Yes, there are some minor performance improvements but it’s basically the same thing. I’m obsessed with having the latest OS though.

I’m not buying it until it’s been out for atleast a few months. Windows operating systems are invariably bugged when they come out. I doubt this will be an exception.
To people who have it: What things are there that are actually new? Is it just Vista but faster? (This isn’t sarcasm, genuine questions.)
True that!
Vista is shit though…If your running it on hardware from the fucking 90s. People expect to run the latest OS’s on old hardware.
Windows 7 runs alot better on netbooks, they’re slow but you can’t say they use old hardware.
Less/no compatibility with old software, it’s a slower operating system than XP, and it whores resources. I don’t want to drone on though, so I’ll stop there.
But if you like it, that’s what matters though.
Its only hogs resources if you have 1GB< ram.
Also, Vista “footprints” memory. So when its needed, its instantly given to the demanding program.
I wondered this until I installed it. It definitely has similarities to Vista such as the aero glass idea, some menus and such feel similar, but just because it’s built off vista, doesn’t mean it’s identical. It’s very different, and definitely worth the upgrade.
So it uses more resources to get more performance? Not that it really affects me, I got 3GB RAM running with Vista. I’m just wondering.
