I realise the CD key combined with the country would do that, however a major requirement for getting a cd key is buying the physical discs for the game.
I am mentioning buying things via steam, say you make an account stating you are english and whatnot would valve recognise that it is in germany and therefore let you download a cut version when you buy it Over steam.

this means that you’ll get a cut version because steam thinks you’re a german.
never buy a game if you’re in germany, it will result in a cut version of a game. ever.

He should buy the game in disc version in a country other than germany. Then it will not be cut.

the IP adress is stored in your registry in the steam key.
and yes, they think we would go on a rampage if we play such brutal games… so much idiocy in our politics

As far as I know, even the DVD of Terminator 1 is cut.

I bought my Orange Box a month ago and have never experienced any censorship issues, despite living in Germany. I even downloaded the Uncut Patch for Episode 2, because I had read on the internet that Episode 2 was the only cut version of the three games. But it wasn’t cut on my computer. Only thing I had done was setting steam to English, and all steam games to English language as well. But I don’t know whether or not that was it what had the desired effect.

I never actually had to use the Uncut Patch. Curious. German censorship sucks, anyway. It’s not that they are trying to protect the youth, they are completely prohibiting the sale of gory games, even to adults like me. We are forced to do something illegal so we can get our entertainment the way it was meant to be. Freedom of choice my ass! :pirate:

Here can you see for example how Half Life 2 is cut in Germany. The pictures on the left hand side are from uncensored (international) version and on the right from the german.

btw you linked to the xbox360 hl2 version, which is different to the pc version.

I had my HL1 anthology censored, but I didn’t buy it from Germany. So I just emailed Valve and everything was okay. TF2 censorship is worst IMO.
