Wikileaks

Yes, it would be great if laws could be made for every circumstance. But they can’t. Leaking classified documents is a crime, and the publishing of them should be a crime. The decision of what should be shown must fall to someone, and that someone should never be an idiot idealist who believes in truth and only truth. I do not trust Wikileak’s contributers to be intelligent about what they leak, and as such cannot support them. It is not this particular leak that is the problem, but those that follow it that do cause problems and death, which to my mind, is an inevitability. Therefore, the laws should apply to all instances, so that such a point cannot be reached.
Murder against a murderer is still murder, even if justified. The same applies here.

Also, before you bring up freedom of speech, learn the difference between freedom of speech and freedom of knowledge. You have a right to one and not to the other. This falls into the latter category. Don’t like it? Try to get your politicians to outlaw government secrets, and watch your country go straight to diplomatic hell.

So, we either allow any kind of secret, or have no secrets?

What naivety. I’m not defending my right to know. I’m defending Julian Assange’s right to speak. Look at the previous page. I don’t care about the knowledge. I think I said that verbatim. I care about the rights of an innocent man and what his potential conviction or death means for the rest of us. If -I- knew that a murderer was getting away with a terrible crime, I sure as hell want the right to speak up.

The laws should apply in all instances, including the governments that create them. Here’s the thing though. This has happened before and the publishers and recipients of leaks have NEVER been prosecuted, and especially not threatened with death.

But Julian Assange was not speaking. He was publishing, copying the words of others. A man should always have the right to voice his opinions, but Julian Assange is not voicing his opinions. He is publishing and ultimately leaking classified documents.
I agree that this is system is far from perfect. I don’t like the idea of giving the power to conceal from the people information to politicians. But it is a fundamental necessity. It should also be noted that via the anonymity of the internet, it is possible to leak documents without giving your name. As such, this whole argument is something of a moot point when it comes to the leaking of documents. Through this, those who find documents that implicate crimes can disseminate info without risking penalties, and without a figure head, some idiot with no concept of reality will be less likely to leak some documents of major importance for the sake of truth.

What I just want to know is how you can be okay with willingly and knowingly making decisions based on what they want you to know, I’m not saying that they have malicious intent but they are obviously intent on trying to stay in power. In my view that completely breaks the system of choosing your leaders and governments and turns it into a game of who has the better advertising instead of what it’s supposed to be.

Also to those asking why they are pinning sex charges on him, my wild uneducated guess would be that they are using one of their old and trusty tools of killing his reputation what with the conflicted feelings about sex in the media it’s even more effective than saying he murders people by instead calling him a rapist.

The same way I’m okay with war. Its a necessity. That said, its not like choosing an elected leader has ever been about their actions for the most part, at least for most people. The person who runs the best campaign and is in a favorable climate wins. How else does Obama, a man with pretty much no political experience, get elected?

I wish I could’ve seen one single HONEST politician

@someonerandm Well then that sort of defeats the whole purpose of a democracy doesn’t it? But that said the system has been circumvented for a while now and is too far gone to be recovered and brought to work like it was originally supposed to. So I guess there is no point.

But I have one problem with your post

How is having your system of government be rendered almost useless a necessity? Could you please explain that part to me?

I think that if Assange dies he’ll be martyred, optimists and naive idealists will take up flags and rabble semi-politely on the streets, and it will make about as much of a difference as the Toronto protests.

Meaning a bunch of protesters will get the shit beaten out of them.
So, how about those DDoS attacks?

Anon downs Mastercard, Visa, Swedish bank site, PayPal blog and the Sweedish Prosecutors Website, all within 36 hours. bscly.

I just want Moot to support arresting him so 4chan DDoSs themselves. They are capable of suicide.
The system of government is, however, not rendered useless. When things go bad, the people are able to choose a new group of people, and managing a campaign isn’t the worst practice for managing a country. It works, in the end, though not perfectly.
In the words of Churchill: Democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.

haha, nice one

Reading the FOXnews comment section about Wikileaks provides me with a daily income of lulz.

Can I get a link?

Enter ‘Wikileaks’ in the search field.

So many birth certificate jokes.

Also all you eurotrash are maroons. What’s wrong with you?

Considering that it’s been a little while since the “sensitive information” from the US has been leaked, you think government people would avoid going there…

My father, grandfather, and sister work for a branch of the government in the US. People are getting prosecuted or reprimanded for going to Wikileaks in their branch buildings. And the same day those people are getting arrested and charged (stripped of their security clearance too). There are more people doing the exact same thing the previous batch were doing. Rinse and repeat the process.

The sheer amount of stupidity that people do still astounds me.

Land of the free, so long as you do what we tell you to.

Goddammit /b/, you aren’t hackers, you just downloaded a program to DDoS people. grar

Yeah, that’s ridiculous Chicken. You’d think they’d block access to the sites altogether. I don’t work for the government, but I do work for a very large and famous defense contractor, and they jumped the gun on that.

“Employees should be aware that the White House and US DoD may consider accessing documents on this site mishandling classified information, which would violate US laws and compromise our national security.”

What a load. Not only a contradiction, also like I said, we couldn’t get there even if we wanted to. Look at the flashing lights. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
