Wikileaks

In case you’ve been living under a rock, Wikileaks is a website that uploads leaked information, mostly classified sensitive or secret, from 3rd party sources on the web. It is worth noting that none of that latest releases that have cause the media firestorm were classified top secret.

There have been discussions going on in the political front recently, mostly in the conservative party, about whether to classify the website as a terrorist organization for these releases, and it’s founder as a terrorist.

There are arguments being made both for and against Wikileaks and I’d like to hear some opinions. I’ll put in my bit to get started.

I think branding the organization as a terrorist one is far too extreme, as is branding Julian a terrorist and digging up dirt on the guy just to get him into custody.

  1. The media would have us believe this guy is guilty of rape, but to make this clear, the allegation is that his condom broke during sex and he knew about it and decided not to tell his partner. Not only are they simply assuming he did this knowingly, but the charges came forward only after these women were dug up and interrogated. Not just that, but INTERPOL? For a condom? Come on.

  2. The guy is only in trouble now because he ruffled the wrong feathers. He received international praise when he exposed extrajudicial assassinations and corruption in Kenya. A little fingerprint lifting by the United States is disclosed and everyone flips a lid and wants this guy dead.

  3. Finally theres the rational part of my brain that says we SHOULD know what our own government is doing about foreign relations, especially after that last presidency. If we’re calling the Prime Minister of France a thin skinned authoritarian, I want to know. If we’re gunning down civilians from helicopters, I want to know. I should know when my government decides to steal biometric data from UN members. My reason says that if we’re not doing anything wrong then we don’t have anything to hide.

I can probably think of a few exceptions, but nothing that has been published on Wikileaks. Anyway… two cents? Anyone?

I, personally, have never visited Wikileaks prior to the “firestorm” and now I can’t access it. What kind of information was posted there?

Last I heard, some people were DDoSing it and it started to cause problems with their server providers so they’re moving to other servers, godspeed. You can still access it by going directly to the IP though.

Allegedly the woman who is claiming rape also runs a blog on how to falsely accuse your ex’s for rape and to get the most finance out of it.

There were thousands of documents. Some notable were these.

A video of US soldiers shooting down civilians and laughing from an Apache helicopter.

Orders from Hillary Clinton to US Ambassadors to begin information extraction and biometric data extraction from prominent members of the UN.

Documents that show the fear in the Saudi government about Irans nuclear program, in addition to the fact that they may be accepting weapons from the US.

Locations where the US has previously struck against Al Queida camps

Allegations the Chinese government is behind the internet censorship going on there.

I’m sure I’m forgetting a bunch. And Amazon.com, after being threatened by the government and claiming ‘terrorist by association’ or some bullshit, dropped Wikileaks. The database is still offline I believe.

To quote something I heard earlier, “If Amazon.com isn’t worried about defending 1st amendment rights and standing up to this kind of thing, they may want to get out of the business of selling books.”

“Putin is an alpha dog” being the most important leak so far.

Personally I would find it amusing if Assange is killed so they can give us the key to that tasty intel to wank off to.

Oh, we apparently sent in spies to steal back enriched uranium from plants in a few countries. Forgot that one.

Is anything considered top-secret?

Kinda scares you to think about what is, doesn’t it?

i have a neutral feeling about wikileaks. i don’t think the goverment should hide info from us.

jerry: It is my belief that there must be certain secrets kept between governments but a monetary contribution or governmental associations with “out” organizations (such as, for example, “Focus on the Family” or “Daily Kos”) should not be one of them.

I think the government should get ddos’ed and wikileaks for president.

yes

how do we ddos the guys that were ddosing wikileaks?

Wikileaks is the epitome of an idealistic idiocy that has crept into society. For some unknown reason, people have suddenly decided that the government shouldn’t hide things from the people, and by association, the world. Obviously this view is a complete renunciation of diplomatic reality, and largely supported by idiots, but still, its really very concerning that there are that many idealists in the world.

I hate idealists.

wikileaks makes the world seem less boring imo
i’m all for it

I did kinda lol at some of the descriptions of world leaders.

I’m inbetween.

On one hand, I WANT the idealistic situation where they hide nothing. But on the other hand, I’m smart enough to realize that’s a horrible idea and the government has the right to hide things.

I like that he exposed corruption and all that in Kenya, but to release diplomatic documents that reveal what they really think of each other that really does nothing more than strain diplomatic relationships just seems like gossip spreading as opposed to any real news worth leaking.

So, in your world, there would be no idealists? :retard:

Ideally. Come to think of it, how much of human advancement has been because of idealism. Quite a bit I suspect. Damn. I guess I have to put up with them.

Don’t mind me, just quoting things out of context.

Yeah, he said that.
