Which MP5 model do you prefer?

You could always go with Barrett REC 7s in place of an M4. Or the HK416 if you want to keep it to H&K. (And yes, I got the joke.)

Only a handful of countries even use the HK416, and they’ve only been using them for a year or so. The 416 is far too new to be used in the game. Aside from the fact that they aren’t going to implement the M4 and the 416 is marketed as a “fix” for the M4.

I think you’ve missed the joke even more than I did.

Swooooosh… :fffuuu:

I assumed he was being serious as he hadn’t posted earlier… Plus, I skipped over the part where he said “And yes, I got the joke.” :frowning:

Anyway, it’s not necessary to quote the post above your own.

And so you did, oh wait.

I prefer the new one but the old is the best.

I like the new version. Red dot sights are super weak.

lol i didnt know there were different ones

Fine, just let the original use the new MP5.

Then allow people who like the old mp5, download it through the main page.

I like the newest version.

After sifting through this thread I’ve realized that nobody here knows anything about firearms besides what they saw on call of duty and future weapons, so here’s the deal. There is a HUGE difference between a submachine gun (UMP, mp5, p90) and an assault rifle. Submachine guns use pistol ammunition, whereas rifles use…rifle ammunition. The difference in power and range is immense, and the two just seem to be far to interchanged. The need for submachine guns has been mitigated in recent years but the compactness of modern assault rifles, and the need for a more powerful round as pistol ammunition is usually easy to stop with just a kevlar vest, not to mention a sapi plate.

As far as what the Marines should use, it’s either gonna be an mp5a4, an m16a4, or an m4. There wouldn’t be any silly grenade launcher on the mp5 and assuming these are still at least somewhat like actual marines, they would have a mix of different weaponry in each squad. The shotgun should be changed to a benelli 1014 or remington 870, the pistol should be an m9 or 1911 meu (maybe both).

As far as what the Marines wear (slightly off topic), it was never right in the first place, and still isn’t. I would be really happy if they got rid of the berets (the marines are better than silly french hats). I’m happy that the dev’s at least understand what MOLLE gear is to some extent (even though they don’t even have any pouches on their rigs lmao) but the rest made me facepalm at half life 1 and it makes me facepalm today. The camouflage pattern is also ridiculous and never made any sense; they would be better off putting the marines in sage green nomex flight suits or MARPAT camouflage, since that’s what they actually wear for such an environment.

At the end of the day though this is a sci fi game so there’s no denying that. I suppose it’s just as well to protect the image of real marines because the original game made a tremendous mockery of real marines and played on the ridiculous stereotype of marines being stupid brutes, but such was the trend of 90s movies and games.

I don’t care, they do the same thing.

I don’t particularly care about different gun types. I just know that one type of gun fires quickly but each individual bullet doesn’t do much damage (submachine gun), and another uses bullets less rapidly but deals more damage (shotgun) and others use energy balls (tau cannon?) and still another uses arrows.

That’s all I care about, to be honest. At least, where it comes to playing the game.

  1. this is a game, if the guns look awesome they’re good enough
  2. if they wear stuff that marines don’t, have you considered that maybe they’re not marines? it’s never mentioned what they are, except badasses with guns and uniforms
  3. the camouflage was made to make the soldiers actually stand out in HL, because they’d be too hard to spot if they had actual camouflage

^ This, if the BM dev change the original gun to the weapons you suggest. Which mean they are mocking the original half-life.

So no change is better.

Yes it does mention they are marines, in fact it mentions it a lot, especially in Opposing Force. Honestly I think if they DID blend in better it would be cool, as it would make the game more challenging.

I do a lot of other things that don’t involve playing sci fi video games, so for me realism is key even in such a genre, because that’s just how I am. I think if they could give the weapons a good FEEL to them I would be just as happy. For example: when you are out of ammunition and you change magazines, a lot of games don’t have the character rack the bolt, and the same goes for games when the character changes a half empty magazine and racks it again; this would eject a live round and chamber another one for no reason. For the devs I would look to the Insurgency mod. I have never seen a game that had more realistic weapon characteristics than that game.

Opposing Force aren’t canon, in half life. They just called “hecu”

They’re not going to change the core mechanics of the mod just to make it more ‘realistic’
It’s a Half-Life remake, they’re remaking Half-life. They are going to be faithful to the original game, because otherwise it’s a crappy reboot, not a remake.

I agree with the guy in the cool spacesuit above.
