When you kill a combine

Including metro cops?

Nope, Metrocops are humans who volunteer to “police” City 17 so they can get better food and living conditions etc.

That’s what I remember too.

Or just so they can be complete jerks to everyone with no repercussions.

Although the best thing they can think for you to do is picking up cans.

That was just one guy. This racial profiling is really just sickening

Yeah, that one guy just makes you throw a can away. The rest will bash you over the head with their stun batons (or worse!).

Well, that guy also bashes you with a stun baton if you don’t do what he says.

Anyway, most of them are probably pretty normal, easy going people, but the power went to their heads. If you’ve read about the Stanford Prison Experiment you should know what I mean.

You know, I had wondered about that for a while. I thought everyone who joined the combine had to undergo the transhuman organ removal/replacement procedure. It left me wondering why Barney hadn’t gotten found out for not having undergone that procedure. This makes so much more sense now. It’s also going to make it a lot easier to play Human Error now.

I thought it was common knowledge that most CP were 100% human.

I never really thought too heavily into it. You never see any metro cop besides barney take off their mask, and the only time you see any combine without their mask is the one with the white guy in Nova Prospekt.
On top of that I had trouble identifying metrocops from the actual soldiers period, since I usually shot and moved on before actually stopping to get a look at the differences between the costuming. Soldiers were just the ones with the bigger guns as far as I was concerned.

There’s a colour difference for a reason. :stuck_out_tongue:

Where exactly does this information about CPs being human come from? I always assumed ALL Combine were modified in some way or another. Didn’t Isacc say that all those who became a part of the military machine were purged of their humanity?
The only contradiction of this that I’ve seen is the Civil Protection series by Ross Scott, and that’s a parody.

Here are some common questions answered, I think one of them says that the combine are Humans that haven’t undergone any surgery etc.

Police aren’t exactly “military”.

The way Combine assimilation works is by reward scheme. People join Civil Protection for better living conditions and power. CP Officers are encouraged to do well by further rewards including “organic reproduction simulation” as said by the Overwatch Dispatch, indicating they get free sex for doing a good job.

However, in order to move up the food chain you have to give away more of your humanity. By agreeing to become part of the Overwatch military you go through the surgical processes and become more of a slave. Overwatch soldiers aren’t rewarded so much as threatened to do their tasks. The Dispatch constantly mentions “permanent off-world assignment” in Nova Prospekt.

Presumeably the Elite Corps seen towards the end of the game have had further modifications to their bodies and may be little more than robots.

I wouldn’t call the elites robots but they are quite close.

I’ve got a mostly complete transcript of all of the soldier & dispatcher dialogue. I’d post it, but it’s gigantic & could still use some work.

Except for the fact that in Episode 2’s credits file you see; “Ellen McLain - Overwatch”

You can hear them here,

Yeah but they are two distinct things, he was just trying to show that. Both can be called Overwatch for short.
