I wouldn’t consider myself a hater but I was disapointed with HL2, for many reasons that I won’t discuss here (see the “games you were disapointed with” thread).
As for steam, I’ve never had any problem with it.
I think the people are blinded by the hype that surrounded HL2. Which is ironic because most of them hate Halo for the same reason.
I mean it’s a good shooter, it just begins to stagnate in it’s own formula around half way through. After I rescued Eli I just stopped giving a shit. See-saw puzzles, laser avoiding, fight some shit AI, rinse and repeat. Not saying that’s a bad thing, just becomes bad after about 4 hours of it.
The episodes are a huge improvement. Hopefully 3 will apply all lessons learnt about pacing and combat to deliver the best FPS experience possible. Valve’s been experimenting a lot. If they don’t nail their next project there’s a problem. Also, EP: 3 had better have dismemberment of some sort.
Basically I’d say “Yeah, but they got better”
i dunno i think the fact that hl2 + episodes had better storytelling than a lot of games made up for the fact that it got a bit formulaic
i got sick of alyx following me though cause she always slowed me down by doing something retarded
HL2’s storyline didn’t really kick up till EP1.
I mean HL2 was “I’m 20 years after the first one. Some Strogg slugs own everything. I gotta fight back. Team up with co orker’s daughter. Co orker is captured. Rescue co orker. kill enemy puppet and cut off strogg slug’s access to their place where they live and shit… Oh yeah co orker’s co orker is traitor for about 15 minutes then turns back good again.”
Most of it was in character development. Very very VERY brief character development.
The sad thing is, it DOES have a better story than most games out there.
yeah i was thinking more the series as a whole than just hl2, but even hl2 alone isnt bad. valve’s storytelling skill makes up for their lol everything else
i might be biased though since hl2 was one of the first games i actually enjoyed in a LONG time
HL2 =/= the greatest game ever made
Halo =/= a piece of shit meant only for 13-year-olds
CoD =/= the best multiplayer experience ever, but with a crappy as hell campaign
TF2 =/= an overly cartoony game that cannot be enjoyed except in gmod
Gmod =/= simply a tool used by the mentally handicapped to create nonsensical “humorous” videos
Wow this thread certainly has drifted far. Anyway, back on topic. If they’re just trolling, ignore them. If they put up the negative parts of hl2, tell them that it came out in 2004, and then watch them do a double-take.
^
That.
I actually enjoy all those games.
The rational response to haters would likely be, “I can’t describe how much of a fuck that I don’t give.”
To quickly add an irrational, end it with “fag”. :’(
“You wouldn’t know good game design if it hit you in the face with a radiator.”
“Yeah, anything over a year old is retarded.” Look at hater “Oh, wait. You’re over a year old.”
“Yeah, well, we can’t all have good taste.”
Why bothering saying something to them? I would simply walk away. One should accept the fact that most people are retarded these days.
I’D RAPE EVERY HATER WITH DA CROWBAR
now you know how men feel
Most True Statement of the Decade award goes to Coolm4n, any comments??? Anyone who disagrees gets beat with the crowbar, or the farm hand, or the foot of Chuck Norris. Whichever you choose.
Yeah, if someone gave me a stupid reason for hating HL2 I would call them a dumb ass.
I just ask about their favorite game, then point and laugh at them, no matter what the game is.
what if they say max payne?
Even Half-Life 1?
HL2: CHEARS MAN!
Halo:that was an understatement, right?
CoD: It was alright. Nazi zombies was better on it than reg multiplayer. THat culd b cuz i like killin zombies
TF2:It is really good on a newer PC and a great internet conne3ction. I get lots a fun outa bein sniper
Gmod:Agree with vid part, and ,as an addition, ragdoll tossing always fun to blow up, crush, burn, disintergrate, andruin an enemy such as Gman or Breen
I had a friend that was sht tlkn HL2 and i just told him to look up when it was released. He came back the next day and took his copy outa the trash XD
Gabe Newell himself said that he believed Half-Life 2 was a better game than HL1 was. I agree with that statement when it comes to the art style and pretty much all aspects of it. It is better and you know why? It’s the best sequel to a game ever made. Think about it…all other sequels for games have SUCKED. Half-Life 2 does serious justice to HL1 and actually had a storyline. Half-Life 1 didn’t have as much of a storyline…when HL2 came along they identified eli and kleiner and who they were in the hl1 universe. Eli and Kleiner didn’t exist in HL1 before HL2 was released. This game, it is more than Half-Life. Half-Life 1 was this—> a game-----half life 2 --a game + expansion of the series. So it includes MORE than hl1. You can not disagree with this I am serious.
See the light! Half-Life 2 made the first game better! It actually in a way modified our view of Half-Life 1. It had an influence on its predecessor and therefore is better than its predecessor and more groundbreaking and astounding only to be cast in dim and false light itself. “Did the lungfish refuse to breath air? It did not. It crept forth boldy…”
It has come to my attention that some have lately called me a collaborator, as if such a term were shameful.
I ask you, what greater endeavor exists than that of collaboration?
In our current unparalleled enterprise, refusal to collaborate is simply a refusal to grow–an insistence on suicide, if you will.
Did the lungfish refuse to breathe air? It did not.
It crept forth boldly while its brethren remained in the blackest ocean abyss, with lidless eyes forever staring at the dark, ignorant and doomed despite their eternal vigilance.
Would we model ourselves on the trilobite?
Are all the accomplishments of humanity fated to be nothing more than a layer of broken plastic shards thinly strewn across a fossil bed, sandwiched between the Burgess shale and an eon’s worth of mud?
In order to be true to our nature, and our destiny, we must aspire to greater things. We have outgrown our cradle. It is futile to cry for mother’s milk, when our true sustenance awaits us among the stars.
And only the universal union that small minds call ‘The Combine’ can carry us there.
Therefore I say, yes, I am a collaborator. We must all collaborate, willingly, eagerly, if we expect to reap the benefits of unification.
And reap we shall.
I liked HL2’s darker style from the concept stage.
i have always loved the style of HL(all of em).
