What would you say to the haters of HL2?

You are entirely correct! You can even listen to the devolopers tell you how they wanted to tie the story from HL2 into HL1, through all the characters you mentioned plus Alyx. ESPECIALLY Alyx. They really wanted her to be an important part of the series. And they improved upon that in the Episodes.

That’s the only part I agree with. The fact that hl² wasn’t so good made hl1 even better than it already was.

To be honest, I was rather disappointed with half life 2. It just felt a bit… lacking in almost everything. I’d give it a 6/10, mainly for the awesome engine. It’s midnight over here and I have school in the morning, so if I remember and if anyone cares I’ll go into more detail tomorrow about why I just sort of… find it boring.

I agree.
But I’m also too lazy to give an explanation, maybe I’ll do it later.

I actually played HL2 before playing HL1. The game just floored me when I played it. And it actually ran on my shitty-ass computer at the time. It’s also how I got into level design.

i loved hl2 very much, i mostly liked the story, style, engine and gameplay

I would have to 100% agree, I was mentally FLOORED by Half-Life 2’s amazing lighting and art direction when I was 9 or 10. I have never gone away from steam for more than idk, a couple days a week at the most.

Just used paint and a few pics off the web.

i can clearly see you used paint.

Well I said I did. It wasn’t meant to be fancy.

no, of course not, but i would cut off the white edges, it makes it VERY obvious that it is paint :stuck_out_tongue:

lol i should have. But oh well. I will do it on another one, sometime later in life.

i would say what the f*$# you little troll go play your faggot lego games and stop hateing a f$#@ing awsome game

What is the point of this thread? To waste time while we wait for black mesa in are pitifully boring lives?

what is the point of you? nothing

thats kind of what happened to me, but when i was either 6 or 7 i had gotten to the part where the first garg is, then i lost the hl cd. then when hl2 came out i beat it and the episodes. then years later i got hl1 and beat it. Hl2 was awesome till i beat the origional.

wen ppl say that they dont leik hl2 i punsh them in the face and call them loosers and noobs

If someone told me they don’t like Half-Life, I wouldn’t argue with them. I don’t like Tetris, Civilization nor flight simulators, simply because they are not my cup of tea. Even within 1 genre some games fit you more and some fit you less. Doom 3 – Return to Castle Wolfenstein – Half-Life 2 – Far Cry : 4 games, all FPS, but each quite different. Where one goes for the easy scare, the other goes for a stealth and mission objectives, the third one goes for post-apo, human-rich storyline of resistance, and the last I’ve never got to the first objective anyway, so I can’t judge that one

I find a big chunk of wisdom in what the developers say in the commentary to the very first playable part of Episode 2: “Originally, the players had to jump from ledge to ledge on a cliff side. But after the playtesters complained that they died several times during the first 5 minutes, we changed it and went for perceived, rather than actual danger.”

I believe that many games make the fatal mistake of scaring the player (chasing them away) at the very beginning by one of the following:

  • too difficult first level(s)
  • too boring first level(s)

If you remember Warcraft 1 (1994), you may remember that the first mission was surprisingly difficult and had basically only 1 “survivable” play style --> going quickly for barracks, amassing an army before the 2500 gold from first mine was exhausted, and proceeding to second gold mine.
In Warcraft 2 (1996), the first mission is identical, but the first mine now has 10 000 gold, and you don’t need to go look for another mine at all.

That’s a visible “lessons learned” in game design.

Far Cry unfortunately, in my humble opinion, didn’t learn, and I just couldn’t survive the first fight. Maybe I was doing something wrong, but the game didn’t tell me what I should do, and I kept diing, so I quit and uninstalled.

Maybe something similar happened to those who hate Half-life or Half-life 2 – after being cut by laser after R.C., or after falling to their deaths when running away from CPs on the rooftops, or maybe because it took so long to get the first gun… they just quit.

[COLOR=‘Magenta’]Pity, but oh well, we have to leave some players for Kinect’s “jumping on the carpet” games as well, no?

If someone says they don’t like Half Life I usually just stare at them until they go insane and shoot themselves.

M-M-M-MONSTER KILL

Personally I don’t think it would bother me. Haters will hate regardless, they want to miss out, so be it.
