What weapons did you find useless in half life 1 and 2

Personally for me, in half life 1 I found the pretty much all the grenades useless. For tripmines I never thought they were any use, grenades the npc’s just ran away from them, and the satchels I used once and it was on the tank.

For half life 2 I think it was the Crossbow thing. The superheated bars of rebar were slow, and even though the gravity was easy to factor in when making a shot. It was still a pain.

So what were yours?

Also hello, I’ve been paroosing the forums for about a year now, and decided it was time to register.

the grenades and pistol in half life 2 and the crowbar in hl1

bugbait

Gluon Gun in HL1 (Gauss / Tau Cannon is more satisfying). Hivehand.

Crossbow in HL2.

definitely the Hivehand from HL1. the only times I used it was in a frenzy of trying to find a weapon with ammo and I’d accidentally switch to it and fire all the bugs uselessly at the enemy.
the grenades also for reasons stated above

HL: The bugs, the crossbow, the trip mines, and the satchels.
HL2: None that I can think of.

HL: Bug things, trip mines, satchels, and grenades.
HL2: Super Gravity Gun(Even though it was cool, it didn’t make any sense, and made the game too easy) and Bugbait

HL: Grenades and hivehand.
HL2: SMG, and bugbait once you get out of Nova Prospekt.

HL1: Magnum, ammo is too rare to use most of the time; when there is ammo nearby, there are no enemies.
HL2: I used all of the weapons a fair bit, however I use the grav gun as a tool more than I do a weapon.

HL1 - The tripmines no doubtly, they came in when first meeting the gargantua, but I would either spam it with everything BUT the tripmines, or electrify him to death. And while running from him in the tunnel, you have more of a “FUCK THIS THINGS SMASHING CARS INTO SOLDIERS… TIME TO GET THE FUCK OUT” thought in your mind than “Ima run AND plant AND die”

HL2 - Bugbait, It was fun telling them to come to me and kill them and spawn more at first, but then it got old, fast.

HL1: I’ve never used the tripmines, because I never found any use for them. Same with the grenades and the Hivehand, and I only used the Gluon to take out Controllers.

HL2: The pistol, the grenades, and the Overwatch Rifle.

In spite of being a trademark, i always found the Crowbar a bit tedious. I don’t know how it was in HL1 (never played it; long story, really want too, though), but in HL2, there was generally enough ammo to circumvent getting close to enemies. Sometimes I enjoy the occasional handing out of beat-downs to zombies in Ravenholm.

Nothing, actually. I was playing Residual Point the other day, and I ran out of all my ammo. Then I occurred to me that that was the first time it had ever happened to me. I’m just that good at spreading out my weapon usage.

Both the HL2 & HL1 Grenades. Also the Bugbait.

bugbait became gimmicky for me.

I dunno what you guys are saying about the grenade, I used it extensively in both games, saves alot of ammo sometimes.

HL: Trip mines and snarks were pretty useless most of the time, although the occasional use could be really satisfying. Satchels and rpgs were too context-specific IMO to say either way. Grenades for snipers, period.

HL2: Though it isn’t completely useless, I really don’t like the SMG. The Overwatch Rifle is a much better machine gun so I use that instead when I have ammo. Grenades I pretty much only use in situations where they give you a crate full of them anyway. Bugbait, again, was very context-specific so I’d say it was fine while I could use it.

The satchel was great fun for anyone who could think more than 4 seconds in advance.

The bugbait was a bit useful, when i could actually use it… otherwise, the bugbait and grenades were pretty useless.
