What weapons did you find useless in half life 1 and 2

HL1:

Grenades weren’t useless, but I never ended up using them overtly. Satchels were great for tanks. Tripmines were the main thin I never used, I just prefer to hunt down and shoot my enemies. I never really use the Gluon Gun either until the Nihilanth, the Tau cannon was just so much better.

HL2:

HL2 had a pretty balanced armoury and I end up using every weapon at least once. Generally though I refrain from using the magnum because I’m an ammo hoarder and I never use the Gravity Gun for combat against anything but zombies.

Those saying grenades: learn to cook them.

I’ve never used the trip mines… ever!

All of you who dont know how to play this still amazing game all weapons are good to use grenades to kill the ground turrets snipers and that guys who are in bunkers are killable with a grenade or RPG snarks eat baby headcrabs and its more easy in battle with gonarch crossbow is good to kill at the distance but also the tripmine is good to use when someone is following us a HECU or alien grunt or bullsquid the satchel charge is good to blow a couple of explosive crates or in battle with gonarch If you dont know how to play don`t play anymore this is my point!

Tripmines, the only time I used them was when I ran out of other explosives to destroy a tank with.

I didn’t use the gluon gun much either because I prefer the tau cannon.

How enlightening.

Considering there’s really no right or wrong way to play the game, what makes your opinion any more or less valuable than anyone else’s?

I have my favourite and less favourite weapons in HL1 (and spinoffs) and HL2. It tends to be guns rather than alien weapons, but that’s merely a personal choice. I find there’s generally a scenario for every weapon to have its use, and I’m actually a big lover of trip mines, especially when looking after the health in difficult level. I like to have the HECUs and Black Ops chase me into an explosive end. They’re also handy for adding a little more ‘ooomph’ to a grenade explosion if you can place them right.

HL-1: Tripmines. Only used them one single time. The hivehand was awesome.
HL-2: Overwatch rifle. I used the SPAS 12 instead.

i dont know how you guys didnt find all the guns useful.
I used every single weapon in both games. The grenades save a load of time and health when your low and hiding, knowing theres an ememy right around the corner. The tripmiens are also awsome when your running away and place one knowing whoever is chasing you is now going to die :stuck_out_tongue: .

The hivehand too was useful, sometimes i just heard the enemies and used the hivehand to get them round corners, its so quick and easy  .

Who says the AR2 alt fire isnt useful too? that thing owns! when i know theres a bunch of combines in a confined space shoot one of those things in and when you walk in its all nice and clean for you  .

I just nessercerily had fun with all the weapons, all very useful in their own situtuations. Also i cant be bothered to quote who said it but the fact theres very little ammo for the AR2 was the whole point as it does own and wouldnt be as fun it you could use it as often as the smg, which otherwise i used the smg alot as ammo is so easy to find  .

Oh and forgot someone said crowbar was useless?, what about headcrabs when they jump at you they always seem to just miss me and i cant get a good shot at them thats where the crowbar comes in handy and you frenzy until its dead lol.

Crowbars are also the only effective weapon aginst barnacles.

Half-Life:

  • hive hand
  • gluon cannon
  • tripmine
  • satchel

Half-Life 2:

  • pistol
  • bugbait

Why do you complain about the crossbow? It’s an awesome 1shot weapon… And complaining about gravity? Hell it just made it more fun and realistic. “oh mai god it requires sum skillz to shoot it!! HELL NO WE MUST BOYCOTT!”
I only found the tripmine useless… And actually , I didn’t even use explosives to destroy the tanks and vehicles, I saved the game, started to hit it with the crowbar, count it, and before the last hit I jumped off and shot it with a pistol  It’s a lot more fun :stuck_out_tongue:

How are you all saying the gluon was useless? Once you get it in Lambda Core is the olny weapon I use in it! And then I don’t use it at all in Xen until the Nihilanth.

This. Grenades were absolutely essential on Hard difficulty, because next to the hive hand which you only get very late in the game, it is the only weapon that you can use without actually seeing the enemy.

Next to that, if you use them right they won’t have time to run away.

Keep in mind I just played through on Hard, but I found the most useless weapon to be the Crossbow. Yes, on Easy and Normal it’s one of the best, but on Hard it takes twice as many shots as the magnum, it’s impossible to use long range because of the delay, and up close you always end up preferring explosives or a shotgun. I had the full 50 ammo almost the entire game.

The pistol is actually a useful weapon. Even though the .357 is way better than the pistol, I love to take out the guy standing on the crane with it. The pistol actually has an unbelievable range, which makes me ask myself, why not the mp7? That’s the only part I don’t like about the game is that the pistol is way accurate if not fired rapidly.

As for the least useful weapon. Definitely the grenades. Cooking should have been implemented.

HL1:
-RPG
HL2:
-RPG

You can’t shoot around corners with an RPG.

fix’d

Also, have you ever tried to turn off the laser in HL?

edit: Also, how the hell do you destroy those gunships? Oh… you gotta be trolling…

He uses the alt fire on the Combine rifle. He’s hardcore.

Wait what? Why are you quoting me, but not really quoting me?

I’ve killed a gunship with grenades before. It’s quite satisfying when you succeed.

I don’t care what you say, the crowbar is useless in all of them.

Also the shotgun from HL1.
