What to do before release, so the internet doesn't die.

I didn’t really mean to say they would mind, lol  . I just kinda meant however the devs eventually do decide how they want to distribute BM, it’ll probably be torrented anyway. Personally I think torrenting is a great idea.

the only problems with torrents is some retarded internet providers like my towns block them.

Lol, torrenting often works out quicker for me than steam. Steam maxes out my connection for the first hour or so, which is fine if I get it all in the first hour, but my ISP will then throttle me if I’ve downloaded too much, and I get a real shitty download from steam. Torrenting on the other hand, the speed never seems to get up high enough to allow me to download enough quickly enough to trigger the throttling.

I live in the greater capital region, and as such my household has Verizon fios. I am willing to be a day one/day two seeder, but I am not sure what would be a good way to go about doing so. As of being on a military installation the router/moden is issued by Verizon.

From my past experience with torrenting, even though I know a particular file I have completed downloading is popular I get few or no leeches, and when I have a few leeches the upload rate is almost always less than 10 kb/s per user.

What strategies/configurations are needed to ensure that the upload pipe is saturated at all times, using any and all “leftover” bandwidth that is available (my dad teleworks from time to time) without making everyone else’s internet unresponsive?

I have an old dual socket server with 2 1.0ghz pentium III’s and Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. It has a direct connection with the router. My preference would be to have that machine responsible for seeding.

Edit: Day one/two AFTER/DURING THE RELEASE.

Isn’t BMS gonna be released as shareware?

it will be distributed on floppys, approximately 6000 of them for each copy  (cuz they want to assure that distribution takes as much time as the development)

is it only coming on 3.5" floppies or can I get by with my 5.25" drive? Also what’s the performance gonna be like on a 386?

balck meas will only play well on a 386dx so if you have an sx you might be out of luck.

Damn, I don’t wan’t to have to spent $5 on a new 386dx

I’m going to be well set with my 486 DX2 66!

As one of the longest surviving active forum members, I fully support the idea of giving long serving members a copy of BM early.

W00T!

I was a BlackMesa fan before all of you. I was a BlackMesa fan back before they were taking voice actor applications. I was a BlackMesa fan on leak free when they first got together. I WAS A BlackMesa FAN BEFORE HL:SOURCE CAME OUT! YEAH! yeah! yeah.

EDIT: goofy smily was not on purpose, but I am leaving it cuz somehow it is appropriate.

How about releasing something like a preload, an archive with password. The team could give out the PW on the release day so we have more time to download those files…

WOW REALLY

I love your signature. :3

i think if anybody deserves to play, its Catz.

Who?

Yourssssss… :3

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
