I am really really excited to see something go disastrously wrong on the release day =]
worst case?
i can’t think of any disastrously wrong thing. Can someone help?
The internet breaks.
‘Meet the Spartans’ becomes #1 in all time DVD sales.
IT IS FREE, I REPEAT, IT IS FREE!!! :fffuuu:
Well I will be burning it to dvd, hell I might make a autorun for it to. I will be printing an awsome cover for it and it will be with the rest of my games, and hopefully one day when my kids are old enough they will be able to play Half-Life and enjoy it. In this superficial world they may not go for the old Half-Life.
I think you missed it Fong, I was saying it would be awesome if it wasn’t free, because I want to pay the devs for their work.
I also want to see it on a DVD with a case and autorun… But I suppose that’s up to me/comunity.
EDIT: OH I KNOW!! They should release it as an ISO with an autorun. So it’s really easy to make a dvd that works, and OFFICIAL BLACK MESA DVD case print-outs. That would be so cool!! Of course, there’s no way any dev wants to do that much work after already working on the mod for 6 years… amiright?
Every tuesday, a new episode of LOST appears on torrents. the Interwabz never died because of the downloaders, even if there are 40 000 of them within an hour of a new release. The technology is simply so great that no matter how many participants, it will not collapse. There’s no need to do any of the crap you are suggesting here. Even one superseed would be enough to get the game out, and if 2 or 3 lead developers (Ram, James, nate?) are superseeds from the beginning, everything will be all right and most of us will be able to get it under 24 hours.
If anyone wants to be useful, they should write a simple tutorial with images on how to get a torrent client working, so that people can get ready (those who don’t yet have a torrent client installed).
Yeah i know.
“Black Mesa: We don’t want your money”
I bet many member already forgot it.
Except that after a while most torrents have to be reupped because the original doesn’t have any seeders left. And whith a 6+ GB file I doubt that many people will upload it over 50%.
I would seed until my ISP DCs me (Unmetered uploads :> )
We’re not talking about 40 000 LOST enthusiasts, we’re talking about thousands of rabid fans, plus random people on Youtube who say that it’s shit. In total, it’s going to be closer to a full Yottabyte in data transfer than the LOST torrents.
Yeah. Those 40000 lost fans will be vastly outnumbered by the thousands and thousands of people all wanting to download BM. For the record, having 3 devs seeding it initially will not work out the well. Maybe if every dev seeded it people will get past the 2% mark within the first hour
That’s what superseeding is for. Each piece only gets uploaded once by the superseed, and separate pieces go to as many different peers as possible, so you get a full copy distributed throughout the cluster more quickly, and people are forced to stay around to get the whole thing (thus meaning they have their pieces seeded for longer)
Problem with torrents is its harder to see how many distributed copies there are in the wild…
either torrent or steam, 6gb on a simple file server and the whole thing crashes or the download speed would be unacceptable for 2010 (if it comes out this year). I like the idea of preparing the torrent download a few days before, but only consider the guys that have 1mbit++ upload
Unless of course they have a simple server with “download slots” which only allow so many people to download at once. Possibly even splitting a large .rar file into several “pieces” which can be “recombined” at a later date.
I mean as soon as one remotely tech savvy person downloads it, it’ll be torrented. Whether the devs like it or not, such is the assholery of the web.
Thousands and thousands > 40000 ???
billyuns and billyuns of fans
why would the developers mind if the mod was torrented, at all?
You do know that Raminator feeds on the anguish of other people, right?
If people can download Black Mesa too easily, he might starve to death.
