What part of Black Mesa do you want to stay most true to the original!

The graphics.

Half Life usual fuckness

I don’t understand why some of you want to replace the new sounds with the original ones. First of all, I know almost all of you won’t even bother doing that when it comes out. Would you seriously, before even playing the game, replace the sound files? That just sounds completely asinine.

Maybe that’s something you’d do on a second playthrough…maybe.

Back on topic though, stuff like the zombie in the chair having a seizure at the computer screen, all of the G-man appearances, zombie pulling security guard into vent, scientist diving through glass window, alien grunt throwing soldier through concrete wall, etc.

I’ll happily play with the new sound effects, although there’s just something about HL1’s crunchy gravel and clangy crowbar that I’ll never forget…

There’s idiots for everything, so Black Mesa won’t be an exception

I mean, I did have an idea of remastering all the HL1 weapon sounds, and maybe even re-scoring the original music to match the timing of the new tracks. The thing is, if I do that, I’m going to wait until there’s been enough time for most people to have put at least two playthroughs into the mod.

I hope they keep some of the iconic lines exactly how they were in the original. “Why do we all have to wear these ridiculous ties?” “Science team…you think he was responsible; sabotage, maybe?”, “So, where are we taking this Freeman guy?”, “I didn’t sign on for this shit. Monsters, sure, but civilians?”, and so on.

Other lines are fine to be added, but I hope these lines from the original are in.

Everything.

Hey, the original game is still out there.

Get redy 2 b mad

On a Rail. I love me some identical tunnels alright.

Seriously though, I kinda just want to play it. See what they kept true to the original and what changed. Maybe the dark empty feeling of Office Complex. Or the chaotic feeling of Surface Tension.

The “eerie factory” feel to Residue Processing, and the puzzle elements in it. I just love the relative non-combat elements working alongside the overall feel.

I actually hope there’s a lot of new passages and different ways to get from point A to point B. One of the best things about the original was that you could watch videos of someone else play after you had beaten the game ten times and still see something that you didn’t know about.

I am excited to play the game normal the first few times and then start trying to speed run it and find all kinds of crazy shortcuts and glitches etc. exploring every aspect of the mod.

Yeah, probs everything!

The blue screen of death at the begining of anomalous materials.

The part where the scientist tries to pull another scientist out of a vent and they both get sucked into it.

The daredevil scientist who leaps out of his office.

The guard saying “catch me later I’ll buy you a beer”

Questionable ethics is the only part I want to stay true to the original. And maybe Inbound, but not everything.

And the less, I guess it would be Surface tension, Blast pit or We’ve got hostiles.

As long as the Imps are still brown and spikey and the Pinky Demons pink, I’ll be happy.

I would also like the grunts to stay as badass as they were in HL, with their cold and husky voices, and their black humor. I guess I can’t just kill them if they aren’t evil.

That’s the part I was going to mention as well.
By the way, how cool is it that Ross Scott just released Freeman’s Mind #44 three days ago where he passes that spot?
I’d say pretty cool…
