I found that level cap disappointing, too.
Finished Remember Me a day after I got it. Great game, go play it.
I also got the most recent Humble Indie Bundle, so I’m about to dive into Hotline Miami.
I played the ultimately awesome game of “Change the motherboard”. That PC suddenly works. Guess who’s the Cisco Certified IT Technician who’s just proven himself around here.
On the gaming front, I’m still deep diving in Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer whenever I’m not HL-ing in school. Hunting for a higher level Black Widow, or even unlocking an M-7 Lancer, Cerberus Harrier or Prothean Particle Rifle is fucking hard, since I’m dedicating all the credits to buying Premium Spectre Packs. One may guess how my consumables look after a few rounds of Gold/Platinum.
Started Cave Story+.
I think I’m going to like this game.
I think it was meant to keep FO3 somewhat inline with FO1/2, but the problem is in FO1/2 it was a lot more difficult to reach the level cap then in FO3.
Kinda makes you wonder why they didn’t tailor it around a 20 lvl cap a little better.
The game likes to screw with you. Ultra-rares are a pain to come by, but the game also has a tendency to upgrade all of one weapon/character before giving you another. I fully unlocked all the appearances of the Awakened Collector (an ultra rare) before I ever got the Geth Juggernaut (a rare). It really doesn’t feel like random drops. I feel your pain. If it’s any consolation the Lancer isn’t that great. The PPR is pretty good at higher levels, especially with the right characters like the Collector, and the Harrier is just amazing (although that comes with a ridiculously tiny spare clip size).
Cave Story+ is awesome. One thing though: Expect choices and consequences, if you aren’t already.
I played The original Cave Story and loved it. It was actually the first time I’ve ever been genuinely sad at a character’s death.
I just bought Far Cry 2 for $9 and it’s pretty cool
Also, Black Mesa with IIopn’s animations, that’s cool too
Hotline Miami is an emotionally draining headfuck of a game. The core gameplay would be fun if the game didn’t remind you every five minutes that you are a bad person for playing this game. The executions make Manhunt seem tame in comparison. Thank GOD it’s a 2d low res game, because if something like that was made with current generation graphics it would probably be rated AO and never sold to anybody.
Played some Star Trek Online today and messed around with the Romulan expansion pack. Its pretty good so far
Yeah, well… it tends to do a similar thing to me with Common and Uncommon’s. Dropped me a high-level Avenger, Predator and Mantis (Mantis was actually my first lvl X weapon, Revenant being the second), and a few more uncommon’s are also high levels now. Then I got a lot of lvl I ultra-rares… I’m also starting to think my Black Widow has been outclassed, much like it outclassed the Mantis. Got an N7 Valiant a few weeks back, didn’t really bother trying - until I upgraded my game to collector’s edition (a lot of useless crap in there, but you should’ve seen how happy the hoodie and KEI-9 made me hehe) and tried it in Singleplayer. Let’s just say that I prefer to put 6 a little weaker bullets down range, rather than 3 a little stronger, because the total damage output is much bigger in the long run - non-existant recoil, almost-instant reload, I put out a mag with the cloak, then have time to pull off another three shots before the cloak cools down even on the shortest (3 seconds without weight cooldown bonuses, I have about 150% weight bonus) time. Sometimes I hack a Geth Prime (Not really using my AI Hacking anywhere else… Reapers and Collectors are all organics, and Cerberus has pretty much just turrets and Atlases).
I’ve seen the Lancer in action on Youtube - the guy was playing silver, touched the trigger and got three kills… If the Harrier and PPR are stronger, well, then… I feel sorry for the enemy when I get those.
Yeah for picking off trooper-class enemies a Valiant or even a Viper is a better choice, but if sniper is going to be your main/only weapon, a Black Widow is a good idea to take on bosses with.
Also the Lancer isn’t really bad, however keep in mind that the guy in the video could have had it at X, with mods and ammo, and might have been a weapons-based character. So don’t expect the Harrier and PPR to be magic weapons, they’re just often better choices because they have specialties. The Harrier has, at the cost of a small clip and few spare shots, a high rate of fire and high damage per shot, plus fairly good accuracy and recoil. The PPR has, at the cost of a ramp-up time and a limited range, what I believe is the highest DPS for any assault rifle when it heats up, plus perfect accuracy and no recoil. The Lancer, while capable and well-balanced, isn’t really particularly special in any way except for its cooldown mechanic, which is useful if you can’t or don’t want to be running to an ammo crate all the time.
You might be right, but personally, after doing the math - Valiant does 60% of Black Widow’s damage per shot (Is THAT the “DPS” you’re talking about?), but I can pull off six shots in the time I pull off the three and reload with the Black Widow. That is just about 10% increase of total damage per that time, if my math is right, but I can’t forget the advantage of “suddenly” being able to deal way more damage to Phantoms and Nemeses.
If I don’t hit the first with those two Cerberus buggers, the non-existant recoil allows me to get back on target and correct my shot way faster that the BW. Not to mention the BW’s slow-ish rate of fire and reload often made me wait until the perfect shot, which often got me killed, while with the Valiant, I’m much more happy with just putting bullets down range, knowing I can correct almost immediately. (And with my high-level Sniper Rifle Spare Thermal Clip at level V, I get 90 percent extra spare ammunition, going to 60 shots before box’n’back trip)
More Far Cry 2. The faction missions pay well.
Tried playing Cry of Fear. After unsuccessfully trying to make it run at my native resolution - apparently goldsrc doesn’t even support certain screen resolutions! - I tried running it in a window, but it just kept freezing on me.
It’s a shame, because it made me realize that, other than Dead Space 2, I’ve never really played a horror game before.
Trying to get through Shadows of Chernobyl.
Trying to unlock the shithead peacoat outfit in Red Dead Redemption but I suck so much at gambling that I need to make 1 grand + the 700 I’ve lost for the final scrap of it.
I only have maybe 6 missions left before I get to see the ending everyone already spoiled for me, and I get to move on to Undead Nightmare
Please play STALKER
Stalker’s not a horror game strictly speaking but it does have quite a few pretty scary moments. And the atmosphere is great. Also, Pyro, play the first two Penumbra games and Amnesia.
I watched a few of NanosuitNinja’s Crysis videos and played for a bit, but I will never be as good as he is. Kind of sad about it .
DPS means damage per second, so when I said that the PPR has the highest DPS of any assault rifle, it means that it does more damage every second it’s being fired than any other assault rifle (when it hits ramp up anyway).
It’s a little more complicated when it comes to sniper rifles. Over time, the Valiant does more DPS than the BW because it has a higher rate of fire and faster reload times. But with sniper rifles, you often don’t empty whole clips at a time, instead you pick off targets with one or two shots at a time. Hence, damage per shot is sometimes more important, which is where the BW has the Valiant beat (at X, 923 compared to Valiant’s 515). So I guess I had it backwards, the Valiant is the better choice for bosses actually. The BW is a little better as far as damage goes, but only in the short run, so it might be a good choice if you have steady hands and can hit headshots reliably.
