Playing “The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess” for the first time in almost a year. Man, Link’s wolf form is hardcore. Guy fucking bites enemies to death, doing the whole “jugular shake-twist” thing and chucking them out of his mouth when he’s done.
Found a zombie roguelike, called Cataclysm, which seems more my speed compared to high fantasy ones. Found what was apparently a military plane crash and got some military clothing as well as a LAW with one shot. Shortly after I had attracted a hoard of zombies and fired it point blank, killing them and me.
Finished the story campaign of Batman Arkham Origins. I am now going to focus on finishing up the side missions.
Was the game any good, though?
In my opinion, WB Montreal did a great job with the Singleplayer part of the game. Boss fights were fun, combat system is solid (it’s a little tougher though), it looks great, and has a good story. I’ve encountered a couple minor issues while playing it, but it didn’t keep me from enjoying it.
Can’t say the same thing with the multiplayer part of it though. Unlike Montreal, I believe that Splash Damage didn’t do a good job with this. The third person shooter aspect of it feels clunky compared to ME3’s MP. Also, I’ve had some issues with it randomly dropping connection from a server.
Overall, I recommend getting this game, but only for the Singleplayer.
Started and and finished Medal of Honor 2010, which I enjoyed a fair amount more than I expected. Haven’t played the multiplayer (“Tier 1”, what) but that’s just a reskinned Bad Company 2 so I probably won’t bother though. Everything auditory in this game is amazing; the gun sounds, the voice acting, the music. Animations are kind of awkward though.
Today i played Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, with my mom of all people.
I always thought Nintendo were some of the best at showing us that games are about fun. Kirby was my favorite game when I was young, and it’s still in my top 3.
Finished the Battlefield 4 campaign today.
I gotta say, I really quite enjoyed it. You really feel like you’re fighting alongside other people, rather than just soldiers. I got really invested in the story by the end, which is way more than I can say about Battlefield 3 and Black Ops 2.
Managed to get Metal Gear Online 1 working with an emulator. Amazing that people managed to get it up and running again.
Started playing Metro 2033 after months of having bought it.
Thoughts so far:
The atmosphere is great, but voice acting and dialogs are really shitty (plus, npc facial animations are wooden as all hell and expose the bad writing even further), and the weapon system feels clunky.
You know what’s funny about Metro 2033? Everyone likes to complain about the silly Russian accents, and some folks even recommend playing it in Russian with captioning. The thing is, unless I’m mistaken, the voice actors are the same for both Russian and English.
I’d have to agree with you about the guns. The ragdolls are so bad you half the time can’t tell if whatever you shot is dead or not, and it feels clunky to shoot guns. The gunshot sounds suck, too.
Both languages have the same voice actors yes, but the main complain isn’t silly accents, it is that the english ones lack empathy. Though, I’ve seen native russian speakers saying the same about the russian voice acting, so the actors may just be bad at it overall.
And for the guns, a lot of them is kind of homemade-ish from scraps, so they would probably be clunky to use. I myself prefer to fight with the throwing knives while I’m sneaking around anyway, never been much for straight on rushing. Ranger mode force this even more.
The word ranger leads me to a question - In the books, they call those going to the surface for stalkers, why didn’t they keep that name in the game?
They did. They mention stalkers at least once in both games. In the first game when you first go to the surface and in LL when you’re at the beginning someone says “Nazi stalkers”. The Rangers are a certain group of people in the games. There are Nazis, Communists, and Rangers.
The accents are not the problem, at least not for me. The delivery just feels off, like they’re just reading their lines with no kind of understanding about what’s actually going on in the game.
I’d rather have fun instead of using realism as a cop-out.
I finished off Dawnguard for the first time in Skyrim. Very well done, although I wish the Soul Cairn had been its own worldspace with a map. It looked way too same-y to navigate successfully; I was trying to explore it all and kept going in circles.
Beat Saints Row IV this morning. It was a very enjoyable game. I think I still liked 2 the most, but this was a close second, with 3 still fun, but well off in the rear of the pack.
The rest of the day was spent watching TV, DVD, and playing Minecraft online.
Started a new game in TW2, this time with the combat rebalance mod. I really like the pirouette and the autoparry. Also messed around in the config file to hopefully raise the draw distance for grass a bit since there were a number of times in the game last time I played where the grass would pop in like 5 feet in front of you.
Can’t wait to play TW3 and see what its combat is like. It sounds like they’re making it a lot better.
I’ve been playing a lot of The Dark Mod. It’s pretty much spot-on classic Thief gameplay. It’s really quite fun, and a standalone game, now. My only complaint is that it’s hard to find really good missions, since it’s all supported by modders who make fan missions for the game.
So far I’ve played Portal 2 today. Still a favorite. I might hop into another game. I’ve been meaning to play Kingdom Hearts, but never got around to it.
Playing Civ V for most of my nights since finals are over. Been having a little LAN party with two other friends. Currently trying to take over Asia.
