What Game Did You Play Today?

i bought it brand new, how is that possible?

Then I’ve got nothing for you. That’s the only thing I can think of.

Still haven’t finished it. Goddamn do I find it hard. I found some things in Portal 1 and 2 hard enough as is, these just absolutely kill me.

I finished Pony Island.

In a total of less than two hours, I killed both Jesus and Satan.
That game was fucking weird.

It’s the best thing I’ve ever experienced with the word “pony” in it’s title.

Today I played The Witness.
Holy shit, this game.

Basically you wake up on an island. The island is packed full of puzzles.
That’s it, no hand holding at all, all the hints that you get are how to move around and what button is used for running. After that you’re on your own.
The Witness reminds me of Portal. Portal took one concept (portals) and by combining that concept with other elements Portal devs built the whole game around it.
The Witness does a similar thing, it introduces you to its basic puzzle solving mechanic and then goes in all sorts of directions with it.
It looks gorgeous, puzzles are fun and sometimes pretty difficult.

I do have some issues with the game though.
I don’t want to spoil stuff, so all that I’ll say is that I’m not a huge fan of the boat.
Also sometimes you’re not sure of the rules of the particular puzzle even if you solved some that use the same elements, but that’s what you get when your game has no hints, and once you do figure out what’s going on it’s a very satisfying moment.

So far I’ve spent 8 hours in the game and I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface (there’s A LOT of puzzles).
I love it and I would recommend it to anyone who loves puzzle games.

I never had much trouble with the normal Portal and Portal 2 campaign puzzles, but damn did Mel’s stump me. Mostly because I hate Excursion Funnels, and almost every single puzzle uses them.

I’m really beginning to hate MGS3’s survival viewer. Having to go in and heal each injury starts to wear on you.

Actually played some Black Mesa today cause I haven’t officially completed a run of the retail version yet.

I’m currently stuck at a place in Lambda core where a few A-grunts spawn and a few Vorts. It’s absolutely kicking my ass. ;_;

I popped my video card back in yesterday. I think the weirdness may have been due to a loose molex connector on my audio card, but I’ll have to watch how the system behaves now.

With video properly powered again, I played some more Portal Stories: Mel, started the new Shadow Complex, started a game of Metro: 2033 Redux, and have finally realized that what I really want to play is just Half-Life.

Finished “Never Alone”. Good game, and I enjoyed the cultural insight videos a lot.

Reached the endgame of The Witness.
Gotta correct my recommendation from the previous post.
If you think you like line puzzles (there are many variations, but those are still line puzzles) in the trailers/streams/let’s plays and you don’t ask anything more of the game, then you’ll enjoy it.
However I thought it was a bit weird that a game based around exploration doesn’t really reward player for exploring the island.
Well, you do find audio logs and videos, but those don’t tell you anything about the island you’re stuck on, about who you’re playing as, about why you’re on the island in the first place.
Those collectibles are just there, they don’t really add anything. What you can find while exploring the island is… more puzzles to solve.
And then you reach the end and the game just ends. There’s a short cutscene and that’s it.
So in the end I enjoyed the game a lot, but was disappointed by the lack of anything other than line puzzles, but maybe it’s not fair of me to ask more, I don’t know. As I said above “I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface”. Now I know that the game was just the surface, no matter how big it was.

Mind: Path to Thalamus.

I like a puzzle game, I really do. But christ, some of these actually have no logic or clues to them, so you’re just running around trial-and-erroring everything.

Haven’t played it, but I really enjoy the soundtrack.

Oh definitely, it’s a beautiful soundtrack. Just one of those puzzle games that I find more challenging than I would’ve liked. Some things you cannot get wrong unless you’re missing your brain, but some of the things you’re just like “really though, how was I supposed to ever know that?”.

Today played more BM. About to head into the flooder reactor core in Lambda (I’m in the room anyway). Alien grunt encounters are seriously kicking my ass, and not in a fun challenge sort of way.

Finished the first piece of DLC for Dishonored, The Knife of Dunwall. Started The Brigmore Witches.

I managed to get my old copy of “The World Ends With You” back. It’s hard to get used to the battle system again. Dividing my attention between two screens constantly tracking the puck and incoming enemy attacks is quite stressful.

Also blind bought a game for 3DS called Stella Glow, it’s quite a bit better than I was expecting.

Ungodly amounts of Skyrim, as usual.
It sucks that I have so many ideas for Skyrim mods, but I don’t have what it takes to make my own, and the odds of getting someone to do a request for you are pretty much below zero.

XCOM 2 IN 20 MINUTES GET HYPED

Been playing SOMA, despite my general aversion to horror.
So far it’s hardly horror, but goddamn is it a beautiful game. It charts pretty high on my list of beautifully designed games. The story is also heading in some interesting directions.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
