What Game Did You Play Today?

I’m talking about for if your playing it through for the first time.

At least that’s what a lot of people told me, because a lot of mods alter the feel of the game quite a bit from what GSC intended. Though I suppose if it just adds stuff then it wouldn’t be too bad. That being said, if you don’t play vanilla, you have nothing to compare the mods to that you can judge the quality by.

It really is. I went in not expecting much, was just looking for a new game to play, and now that I actually played beyond the first couple of missions I can’t get enough of it. It just draws you in so well. Even when I’m not in the mood to play it because I’m interested in something else, I’ll load it up just so I don’t get bored of the other game I’m playing, and after a while of playing I’m back in and I don’t want to quit, and it manages to make me jump at shadows.

Kind of related, but a lot of people broke off from GSC and are developing that Survarium game (dumb name), which is basically gonna be a F2P MMOFPS (similar to dayZ I suppose) version of Stalker but with terms and stuff changed and things a little different because they don’t have the rights to make a direct stalker game.

Vanilla used to be unplayable apparently but I think it’s been patched enough that that’s not true any more.

Yeah, with patches, there are some odd glitches here and there, but it’s a-ok.

You mean official patches, or do you have to download an unofficial one, like with Red Faction?

With official patches. There is a fan patch called ZRP which further fixes bugs but it’s not entirely necessary for the game to be playable. I’d still suggest it. Don’t use Complete though, almost everyone agrees you shouldn’t, especially on your first playthrough (I actually did <_<). Makes the game much easier than vanilla.

I tried playing SoC vanilla and got so frustrated with it that I broke down and installed complete. Every now and then I would just die out of nowhere, my inventory would be completely empty when I loaded up a save, or the saves would just be gone when I booted the game up. Nothing like that happened when I installed the mod.

It does fix bugs but it does more undesirable things. ZRP is pretty much exactly the same thing but it only fixes the bugs. Then you could install graphics mods or whatever on top of it.

When I get some time (what’s looking to be about a decade from now) I’ll retry stalker with the correct modifications.

Ah, thanks. I’ll have to make sure to remember that.

Just be aware that ZRP moves file locations and other things around to be cleaner, so even graphics mods will flat out crash the game if you install them normally.

Played AC3 today.

Interestingly enough, playing the side shit was more fun than playing the main quest. Improving the homestead felt better than anything else I’ve done for Washington.

Tried to play AC3 today too. But of course, my fucking Xbox 360 decided to freeze twice. Goddamn it.

Played more BM today.

Even with greatly reduced health for 1 of the stages, the helicopter is still a bitch to fight

Alright, Borderlands 2 went from fucking incredible to FUCKING INCREDIBLE

Shogun 2.
Became Shogun. Now to eradicate all other clans from Japan.

Every time someone mentions Shogun, I almost always think of Shogo: Mobile Armor Division

I got that off GOG not long ago. Interesting game.

I also got the ARMA 2 pack. What the fuck is wrong with this interface. There is just a ton of buttons you have to use to do ANYTHING.

REALISTIC MILITARY GAME SIMULATOR

I honestly tried an ARMA game once and have never had a desire to go back to them.

Also I recall someone calling me a n00b for not liking ARMA but liking BF2.

YES BECAUSE MY CHARACTER’S HEAD TURNING INDEPENDENT OF MY BODY IS THE CORE OF A GOOD FPS EXPERIENCE

I tried running benchmarks to get a stable framerate- holy shit the ARMA 2 engine is demanding. I had to turn the whole thing to low to get the first benchmark running at 27fps. The second benchmark is an explosion fest that completely destroys my fps, so in all likelyhood I’ll need a much better computer to run the game properly.

The controls for infantry are a little over complicated, though. For instance, you have three seperate buttons to go to the three stances- standing, crouch, and prone. Wouldn’t it be easier to make it like Ghost Recon and just have two keys mapped to Stance up/Stance down?
