Okay, The Last of Us is definitely growing on me. I started playing last night around 8:00pm. I managed to get to WINTER. But uh… it was sunrise by the time I stopped. It’s like a really good novel you can’t put down, except you can knife people in the throat.
Highlight below for spoilers. If you haven’t played up to WINTER, don’t highlight.
I wish we played as Ellie more. Her gameplay segments so far have been my favorite of the whole game.
Got a 3DS for my birthday and so I’ve been playing a bunch of eShop demos. So far the best ones have been Resident Evil: Revelations and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D.
Not really sure what to say about the ending, other than it wasn’t quite what I expected. And yet it was. But wasn’t. It’s probably one of the most bleak games I’ve ever played.
Been playing Overgrowth’s arena mode. Pretty fun. Also finally got Conker to emulate well (though the framerate doesn’t seem as good) by downgrading from the beta version of PJ64 that I was using.
I’ve been playing Human Revolution again. Maybe its because it was late and I was drinking, but when something like this happened tonight, I thought it was hilarious. I was in the Hive and I went to knock out two civilians, you know, for fun, and then that happened. The way the game makes a little sci-fi noise when he appears makes it seem like he phased through the wall just to punch those people. Ah, open world games. I wish I had recorded that. As it was, I only happened to catch a snapshot of a rather…unsettling incident at the end of my knockout spree. Once everyone else in the Hung Hua Hotel was unconscious, I went to Mei’s room and, well, this happened.
It wouldn’t be much of anything, except it felt at that moment that the game knew what I was doing and judging me for it. It was unnerving and a little scary. Oh and apparently Tong is completely invincible, at least at certain parts of the game.
I have also been playing Human Revolution, trying to get the Pacifist achievement. I am at the arctic base Limb clinic with 17 unused praxis, 70 stop worms, 70 nuke antiviruses, and over $50,000 that I am not going to spend on anything. I have been hacking everything (even if I have the pass code), and selling every weapon or ammunition that I am not going to use. I don’t need to loot or pick up a single other piece of equipment for the final boss which I am still a good hour away from, with a few dozen enemies between me and the ending.
God, that was insanity. I can’t believe I pulled off that sequence non-lethally. I was quite impressed with myself, and that was on “Give Me A Challenge.” Can’t imagine what that part is like trying to LTL on “Give Me Deus Ex.”
Indeed I did! The biggest obstacle in that was the robot exploding and killing a trooper that I had previously knocked out. But that doesn’t affect the achievement, which I just unlocked Yay!
Only four achievements I haven’t gotten… Legend - Complete Deus Ex: Human Revolution at its hardest setting. Deus Ex Machina - Experience all the different endings that Deus Ex: Human Revolution has to offer. Foxiest of the Hounds - Complete Deus Ex: Human Revolution without setting off any alarms. Doctorate - Read all 29 unique XP books within a single playthrough.
I don’t think I will be going for any of those any time soon…
I did “Foxiest of the Hounds” on my first time through the game. I didn’t get Pacifist, somehow, despite taking care to only use LTL attacks through the whole game. I think I knocked someone out and they fell into water and drowned or something.
That can happen, and if you knock some people out directly after a quick cut scene (get out of here bro, this doesn’t concern you aug), they end up dead too. It’s a pain in the ass.
The only achievement I’ve never gotten is Doctorate, as I am just too lazy to hunt for them all or read a guide while I play to make sure I get them. Deus Ex Machina is really easy to do though, just save right before you make the final choice, then go back and do each 4 choices and watch them. You don’t have to play through four times to get it.
Give Me Deus Ex isn’t that hard IMO, you just have to be more careful. The biggest difference that I noticed is bullets just hurt a lot more, but the AI is still as dumb and predictable as ever, so as long as you’re good at stealth you should be fine, just save often. Even saving Malik non-lethally isn’t too bad, you just have to be quick and have good non-lethal upgrades. They’re all focused on her so if you stay out of sight it’s do-able.
Just beat LoZ Windwaker an hour or so ago. Such an awesome game. Almost done Splinter Cell, I think I have 2 more missions or so from what I remember. The GameCube port isn’t that bad actually. A little clunky sometimes, but not so clunky that the game is ruined.
At the very end where you choose between variants of Hugh Darrow’s final message, you must go left past the console and activate a panel a short ways away down a hallway. This is the self destruct mechanism for the facility, which kills everyone on Panchea, including yourself, and results in no one knowing the truth about what happened at the facility.
