Half-Life series has to be one of the best game series ever. But, as everyting else, it may be not perfect. What do you think, what does it need to become better?
In my oppinion, the thing that can be improved is music. If Valve add more instrumental music( don’t get me wrong, I like Half-Life music a lot) , like in Crysis 2, it would be a lot better, if you ask me. But everyone is free to dissagree and state their oppinion.
HL needs more cowbell.
I don’t think a big sweeping orchestral score really fits Half-Life that well (assuming that’s what you’re talking about). Orchestral scores are cinematic, and Half-Life is not meant to be a cinematic experience (a la Mass Effect, for example). You’re not meant to be taking part in an interactive movie so much as living the events as they unfold.
As to what Half-Life could use to be better? I don’t know… I mean, it’s Half-Life. Everything that’s there makes it what it is… if you added anything, it wouldn’t be it anymore. It’s interesting food for thought, though; I’ll see if I can think anything up…
More instrumental music? Half Life has the best musical score of any video game I have ever played, and they use it liberaly throughout the games in my experience. I think that its perfect the way it is.
EDIT: (yay 100th post XD)
More enemies, more weapons, more puzzles, more places, more story.
That’s all Half-Life ever needs. Just more.
Iron sights and regenerating heath ?
Though seriously, I would like less loading screens, music that isn’t broken up by loading screens but instead fades out nicely, and better enemy reactions to being hit. Like, shooting a combine soldier in HL2 doesn’t really yield a reaction from him, he just stands still and keeps shooting you until he dies.
I agree. I think seemless loading areas in a similar fashion to Bethesda’s games would be just perfect for Half-Life. The game is all about immersing yourself in Gordon’s body, and a loading screen can easily break immersion.
I can aim perfectly fine without, but I think I’ve been so spoiled by HL mods I really feel out of place without ironsights.
This is the kind of a comment I created this thread for.Perfect!
I didn’t say that the music isn’t great. I love Half-Life music, but it makes me sad that it isn’t played dynamically, as it does in Left 4 Dead (althought, then it does, it kicks butt). Also, with more instrumental music I mean adding more music to Half-Life and it wouldn’t be bad if it is a little more instrumental.
Well,I think that it would be really good to have little more cinematic feel. But you have a really good argument.
Well, everybody is free to have their oppinion.
Half Life 1 could use some nice physics, better graphics, more advanced gameplay…
Now I think there might just be a mod for that somewhere…Ponder
(Sorry, I couldn’t resist)
They flinch. In fact that was around since the trailers back in 2003.
Solid observation sir! Although, the two primaries (Glock 9mm, H&K Mp7 @ 4.6mm) you’re likely referring to deliver almost no kinetic energy to the target, instead relying on hydrostatic shock and a volume of rounds to short out the body’s various nerve and fluid-circulation systems. Basic body armor (CP’s) will stop pistol rounds pretty easily, leaving the enemy able to piss you off for an extra three seconds as you better place your rounds. The 4.6mm will poke dainty little holes in stuff all day long, but you have to peg the armored thugs in the head for best effect…sort like real life.
Headshot gibs. That’s it.
More episodes, ohwait.
The fact that props just explode when you hit them with a crowbar or shoot. Boxes, vent grates, etc. Something should be changed so that pieces fall of as you do damage until the box just falls apart, or something similar.
This, but I think it might be impossible with the way Source’s physics work.
I would love that.
Its so funny, when you hit a box ever so lightly with your crowbar, it just explodes!
Reminds me of Goldeneye, how they packed nitroglycerin into everything.
