What do you believe will supersede the compact disk? Hard drive?

I have been pondering this for a while

I was wondering to myself. What will come supersede the CD-ROM as a way of cheap and easy portable storage? What will supersede the Hard Drive as a way of main storage?

When will we start seeing the next generation of storage platforms?

Allow me to address the anxieties underlying your concerns, rather than leave every possible question you might have left, unvoiced.

I think what will replace hard drives as a storage platform is flash memory. Seeing as that is becoming more able to store more memory

As for the Compact Disk, I’m not so sure. Maybe a crystal perhaps??

Machine code wristwatches.

Probably some form of digital versatile disc or perhaps, in the distant future, some sort of blue ray disc.

Cloud or perhaps some sort of solid state device.

Flash memory will replace both. The next generation of consoles will mark the comeback of games in cartridges.

+1

go to your local electronics store. Have a browse for the cheapest usb flashdrive they have. (prolly like a 2gb stick) Thats enough room to fit a small game, and theyre only getting cheaper.

It is true, and I prefer catridges to CDs, but CDs are still cheaper than USB flash drives.

Traditional harddrives will be replaced by holographic drives…

likes the idea of cartridges making a return.

Yes those are cartridges.

Anyway, digital distribution is the future. CDs would stop being used for games, and any computer to computer transfers would be on flash drives. Hard drives will probably be replaced by online storage.

Also, I hate the idea of a return of those bulky and annoying cartridges which would constantly get stuff stuck in them and they become useless.

So what does online storage store the data on?

Actually its far more expesive to produce flash memory then a disk and a small as hell game is 2 gigs sure but games are getting bigger and bigger.

That’s just so full of win, I couldn’t have said the same obvious conclusion in such a subtle way.

DVD?

also, in after ssd

Actually, punched cards.

Floppy disks are making a come back

I store my data in logic gates dug in the dirt under my house.

there are allready solid state hard drives which paractically are like connecting a series of flash drives together, but for now it’s very expensive opposed to a traditional hard drive. but i believe that is the next generation.

That goes on harddrives or something like them. I’m just taking about personal storage. Although, I probably never will use it, since I have too much experience with bad internet.

With reference to the OP, you’re saying HDDs will be superseded by HDDs. Way to go?

To replace CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays:

As for storage, I’m guessing the ever-growing internet cloud from a consumer standpoint. As for actual storage devices, probably what someone earlier said; some sort of more efficient solid state thingy.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
