What Difficulty Will you play Black Mesa on?

You can still admire the game on hard after you’ve killed everything that moves around you.

Hard, just like the first and only(so far) time I played the original Half-Life.

Custom. Tweek the Skill.cfg to be the way I want it… “hard” isn’t hard enough for me.

I think I shall play it on hard for the first playthrough. One thing I remember about the original half-life was when you played it on hard a lot of the scripted sequences played out differently. Army vs. Alien fights would end much faster etc. and sometimes you missed a lot of sequences and you would never know until you played it on a lesser difficulty. I will probably play on hard and then on normal the second time and spend a lot more time looking around and exploring.

Hard, need to die many times in order to savor the game longer than the 10 hours

Medium, then later Hard. If it gets too easy on Medium I’ll switch.

Half Life always annoyed me with its ‘‘enemies NEED to take more than 100 bullets to the face to die’’ difficulty setting

Probably easy, because:

A. I just want to appreciate the mod for what it is, preferably without dying every two seconds like I always did on any other difficulty in the original

OR

B. I’m a pussy who is terrible at vidya gamez.

Take your pick.

Hard - I want to face the invisible ninja bitches and keep the experience nice and long.

I’ll Play it on normal this time through and the next time I Play it (hopefully when Xen is added) I’ll go through on hard.

THIS

although I will finish it on hard first, as I don’t like screwing with weapon damage and npc health etc until I have played the vanilla at least a little bit

I never normally play a game on hard but I am seriously considering it just to prolong my experience of the mod!

Yeah, I think one of the devs mentioned how hard hard would actually be, but I can’t remember. What I really love in a game is when enemies on hard aren’t “bullet sponges” as someone said. Does anyone know what to expect? Sponges, or something more balanced?

The combine being bullet sponges in HL2 made perfect sense because they are wearing super thick, otherworldly armor (except the metrocops)

Yeah, I guess you have a point there. But weren’t the HL1 grunts/stuff sponges too? There’s only so many bullets you can take, kevlar or not.

I’ll probably end up playing on medium just so I can appreciate the scenery and combat, then hard on second play-through for a challenge.

HGrunts in HL1 were the ultimate bullet sponges, it was insane. I remember once the Cigar Grunt somehow came up to me and launched a contact grenade almost point-blank into my stomach, and somehow I got blown to pieces but he didn’t. :brow:

It didn’t help that the MP5 had such high inaccuracy in the first place, and you didn’t get the Magnum until the level AFTER WGH, which means you had to deal with a whole level of Grunts without a high-power ranged anti-Grunt weapon, or risk charging in with the shotgun and basically opening yourself up to every flanking maneuver possible. :expressionless:

Loved the Grunts as an enemy. They were enjoyably annoying to fight. I really hope they’re like that in Black Mesa too.

Easy because I cannot seem to get skilled enough to go higher than easy.

Well, I want them to be really challenging, but not bullet sponges… I’m still playing on hard though, no matter what.

Hard. Even if everything’s a bullet sponge I will enjoy it.
