What are your biggest pet peeves with games?

As the title says, share your biggest pet peeves with games today.

Remember, this is pet peeves, as in small stuff that’s not a big deal but it just annoys you.

This is NOT a thread to talk about major issues like paying for DLC or Console vs PC/other console or some other bullshit like that.

So, a big pet peeve of mine is console related, specifically with the PS3 but I bet the 360 and Wii also have this issue, but I find it a bit annoying how console games these days do not let you exit the game from the main menu and instead you have to close it by pressing the Home button and closing the game from there.

I mean, really, why hasn’t this been implemented yet?

Level design which does not lead you forward. Either through spawning enemies where you’ve already been (leading you to believe this is the correct way forward, it’s okay when you are supposed to go back) or by making everything look the same and making the exit to an area blend in too well with it’s background (unless it’s a plot point and you are made aware you are looking for something less than obvious). An hour spent running between the same 3 rooms is unforgivable.

Oh and game designers just being silly. Tell me id software, why were half the staff in doom 3 hiding behind panels in the Walls when the demons arrived!

PRESS START, ENTER or whatever before the menu appears. I mean, WHY?

Alt+Tab not working properly.

No quicksaves. I can’t play a game that has no quicksaves, it just frustrates me so bad.

I really hate it when the Quick-Save button (F6 for example) is located right next to the Quick-Load button (F7 or such), it’s just such a pain in the ass to load a game when you really just wanted to save after finishing a frustrating part of the game.

or the much much much worse situation of intending to hit quick load as you are dying, but instead hitting quick save, and this after only saving with quicksave for last 2 hours of gameplay :’(

in a game where you can’t jump or climb objects, it’s just plain stupid that they make these ridiculously low obstacles like some rocks which you could easily step over. Couldn’t they make them at least somewhat high or are they just fucking with the players? Sometimes I don’t even notice there’s something blocking the way and I keep trying to walk through the invisible wall.

And then in the next cut-scene the player climbs up a ten-feet wall with no difficulties. It’s also stupid in general when the main character does something cool or very powerful in a cutscene but you can’t actually do it in the game. It’s like adding some cool scenes to a movie trailer that aren’t really in the movie.

Also, stupid way too long cutscenes before entering a shop or other “stations” (f.ex. dead space) It’s frustrating to see the same old-ass animation again and again, especially if there’s no option to skip it after the first time.

AssBro and TRU not having a “restore checkpoint” feature. Come on, what were they thinking?

As someone else said, Alt+Tab not working.

Not being able to continue the f*cking game after the ending in FalloutNV.

BFBC2; assholes in boats tanks or the heli, especially in 'Nam, that abuse the vehicle. i.e. Camping a chopper out of range of any weapons and spamming rockets into a cp. Saw someone go 44 and 0 that way. Or the more common one of camping a tank out of range and spamming shots while someone keeps you healed. And just plain using the PBR’s machine gun is vehicle abuse.

Cliffhangers meant to get you to play a sequel to come when you either don’t want to play the sequel or it will be a long time in coming. cough AssBro cough

Those are specific complaints about specific games.

I wanted more of a general thing.

Ah k. My last one was general, it’s just AssBro was the most recent offense.

How about people who abuse game mechanics or use absurdly OP weapons in mp and then are convinced they’re good because of it?

And overpowered gameplay strategies that keep you from getting as good a score with other strategies that you enjoy more.

12 year olds.

Attempts to copy something from a CoD game.

Developers selling out to sony or xbox and going exclusive.

I can’t stand that you can’t do anything in games without twenty rewards popping up on the screen.

Shooters are some of the worst at this problem. I can kill one guy and get 5 medals popping up: revenge kill! headshot! killstreak! ETC! ETC!

If you get rewarded for everything…what is the point?

The only ones I never really mind are the tongue-in-cheek rewards like in Crysis 2. After clearing the first portion of the game, you receive the PS2 reward:

“Can It Run Crysis?”

In games such as red dead redemption where you turn like a spak so it makes it incredibly difficult to enter doors, climb ladders or get in the right position to press the action button when there’s a huge group of bad guys running after you and you need to get away really quickly but you can’t because of previously stated problem.:hmph:

I really hate autosnipers in CS, during a gun game, there’s no way around them, even the scout is easier sometimes.

A lot of the time you’ll run into enemies with particularly attractive anatomical features that you hardly ever get to see, because murdering them before they murder you is a priority.

Games with a sprint button. Understandable in a town or something, but who gently jogs through a hailstorm of bullets??

You wouldn’t run for your life if people were shooting at you? Nice instincts

That’s what I was getting at… Sprint should be kinda default

In HL1 it is. and in doom/quake, you can make it so.

I don’t like über-mastered games in which no matter how hard you try, you get raped (starcraft, Quake Live etc.) I mean yeah, you can also be “pro” but it’s hard if most players are way better than you.

I fucking HATE when i’m playing any game, and i accidently press the fucking windows button (riht next to the alt button)
makes we want t orage so fucking hard.

inb4unbindwindowskey or anything that involves making my windows key useless (because i do like to use it when i’m not playing any video games)

Solution: Play better games

Also no quicksave. Probably most annoying thing I can think of right now.
