I just tested that in Half-Life: Source, and it does not.
Right click on gluon gun just makes you cycle through the gluon gun’s idle animations, one of which is gordon manipulating the lever.
If by “affecting damage and ammo consumption rate” you mean that when pressing fire the ammo is consumed and the gluon gun starts making damage then you are right.
I have not played Source, but in the original all the right click would do is activate animations.
That’s all it’s ever done. The general assumption is that it was an unfinished attack or placeholder. But I like to think that Valve left it there as a little gift to us players
In the original HL1 the Gluon Gun’s secondary fire cycles through the animations when it is TURNED OFF.
If you hold down the secodary fire WHILE FIRING THE WEAPON and release the primary fire the beam will continue to be projected but it will not use up ammo and will not do any damage. It’s very helpful for saving ammo if you need to hit several targets in different locations.
See, it’s not just a useless placeholder!
Indeed, it’s a glitch too.
I fail to see how that can be the case…
it does. look at the files. there is a difference between the damage and consumption rate of the wide and narrow beam.
Except that secondary fire doesn’t even fire a beam. Forget files, load up the game and try it.
[COLOR=‘White’](I’m excluding the obvious glitch involved with using secondary fire at the same time as primary, then releasing primary to have a visible beam that uses no ammo and does no damage.)
Are you thinking of the Tau Cannon instead of the Gluon Gun?
Few pages back, but still;
I like this idea. It’s annoying when you’re trying to get a satchel off a ledge or roof, but it just barely stays on top with you. You can’t detonate it without moving, and that can sometimes be fatal. :fffuuu: Being able to move and toss the satchels after arming but still being able to pick them up in this way would be great, IMO.
Suggestion:
Maybe you should make the gluon gun work similar to the flamethrower of “Call of Duty: World at War”.
In CoD:WaW you can fire the flamethrower until it gets too hot… after that you have to take a short break to let the weapon cool down a bit… after that you can fire the weapon again…
I think such a usage of the gluon gun would have sense, because many players really spam with the gluon gun… and that makes it really very nooby and too powerfull because of the huge amount of damage it does…
you could use the lever-animation for starting the “cool-down”-progress…
Another possibility to “weaken” (or better: to make it more fair and less lame) the gluon gun a bit is, that you make it spend the double amount of ammo in comparasion to hl1. so you would be able to make MUCH damage, but in only a short time of firing. You won’t have the possibility to spam the whole time and have to save your ammo for hard enemies.
PS: Just a suggestion, maybe too late to implement aswell…
Any intel on which weapons will cause dismemberment of enemies at time of death? And will you be able to use the crowbar postmortem on enemies to tear them to pieces after they are dead like in hl1?

thanks solo! =o
Would have been fun if you could do it with the crowbar too, but ill take what i can get :]
You CAN pull the trigger really fast, you know.
Wait, I thought it had 8 in the magazine and another… somewhere, for a total of 9.
Edit: Wait, no, you’d have to pump it after you load everything in order to add the 9th, but Gordon doesn’t add the last shell. That sucks.
In real life you can do that with most guns, but a lot of games don’t do that.
From the top of my head, I know Crysis allows you to do that.
Good, but is that just in multiplayer, or single player too?
Damn, I spam in single player when there is lots of enemies around me and I spaz out.
But at leased there is no multiplayer spam.
I don’t understand why we will not be able to pick up live grenades… even if there would not be enough time in every case to throw grenades all the way back at your enemy, I would imagine that you could definitely manage to chuck one far enough to save yourself. When I was able to pull this off in half-life 2 it was amazing, I felt awesome. I was wondering if anyone else shares my feeling about the grenades?
I am not asking for you to change it, and I do not intend to seem unappreciative… they’re your grenades after all. :’(
