Water,Where Art Thou?

ive started working on my first hammer map for tf2,nothing serious, just a fun, unbalanced fight arena for 6v6 or less, and in the middle of the map, theres water, but i cant get it to appear,so if any member of this forum is kind enough to diagnose the problem,i would be very grateful im still working on ramps and a little elevator to get on the top of each spawn, and there will be a simple bridge above the water.
feel free to suggest on ways to make it more fun

the almighty map

how about you, learn how to,you know, put you 're commas and apostraphes in the right place and, capitalize properly

I mean, come on. Just take a few minutes to look over your typing and to correct it. It’s not very hard.

To address the original post: No idea. I don’t even work with game engines/SDK’s.

Did you select a water texture? I remember that part being important, otherwise it’d be some sort of invisible water.

Not to mention that only the top of the water brush should be textured, the other faces should be nodrawed.

OUCH,that was a true grammar fail.
i have the flu,so im a little drousy, cant think straight.
about the apostrophes,my keyboard is brazilian,so i don`t want to reach for the distant apostrophe every 5 words so i use the more convenient Grave accent key.

COUNTER GRAMMAR POLICE BITCH!

Making water for HL1 was much easier. Dunno why Valve changed that.

Fair enough. I won’t be too much of an ass.
The first sentence was mimicking you, by the way.
Also:

Yes, because one mistake is so much worse than two whole posts of problems. Not to mention I was being mocking.

You also wrote “you’re commas” instead of “your”.

Don’t throw stones if your roof is made of glass.

Take a brush, make it where you want the water to be. Texture it with no draw. Then using the face edit tool edit the top only to a water texture.

“learn how to put you’re commas and apostraphes

It is still grammatically incorrect.

You need to nodraw all sides except the top, choose a proper water texture, and make sure your map has no leaks.

That was the point.

I was trying to be clever and maybe even mocking.
I guess I failed.

Here’s a tip, when your trying to point out flaws in grammar don’t have them in your statement. Being clever about it isn’t going to put the forum in stitches from laughter.

I don’t recall saying I was attempting to be humorous, though I guess I might’ve had the tone. Not on purpose, you understand.

Also, and I feel like a colossal dick just typing this:
It’s you’re, not your.

is it just me or the forums are having an influx of trolls lately?

as for your grammar problem
www.wikihow.com/Use-You’re-and-Your

I apologize if I’m coming off as a troll, and I promise I’ll drop the subject after this post.

However, a quick skim through the wikihow article doesn’t seem to contradict me.

“When you are (also works with you’re) trying to point out flaws in grammar don’t have them in your statement.” That seems to work fine, instead of SURPLUS_NiNjA’s use of your.

I guess you looked at the wrong ‘your?’

i am not commas and apostraphes

I know its irritating but I’m on the internet I don’t really give a fuck about grammar I don’t even try sometimes I do out of habit but most of the time I type whatever version is fastest not best.

Although admittedly it bugs the hell out of me when people don’t get this right https://www.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/group.html I am so tired of seeing “Valve are” :rage:

To the OP:

I second what Spycrabz said. I can’t put enough emphasis on the importance of checking for leaks. If you haven’t already done so, read up on finding leaks. My Hammer doesn’t display an error message when a leak is detected (at least not by default,) so you may want to try loading a pointfile and see what happens. If you go to load a pointfile and Hammer asks you if you want to load the default pointfile, that means that there was some kind of leak. AFAIK, this dialog will appear unless the map is leak-free.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
