I will definitely be watching this game.
It wasn’t. Upon further inspection, that car crash was obviously hand keyed. That being said, I believe this was to demonstrate gameplay possibilities in a dynamic world.

When he shut the electronics off, that was all AI apparently. The game is made with a new engine, it’s not an existing engine. The mission shown could have been completed differently, the example he gives is you could have found where the guy was originally and killed him there. I don’t know how that would work because of the cutscene in the club.
And it’s not releasing this year.
This.
Not only does it look much better than vanilla GTAIV, but the AI seems better, and the environment looks more interactive, though I suppose that could just be the type of game it is. I don’t know what to say if you are honestly saying, going by graphics because that’s what is usually measured, that the graphics don’t look better than anything seen this gen.
Edit: “Next gen” might not be the right word, maybe we should say that this is a step up from what has dominated the industry during this gen, and we’re just getting something that is pushing boundaries and not just playing it safe.
Well I was talking about the graphics and to be honest, excepted higher resolution textures this doesn’t look that much better than maxed out GTAIV IMO. And that ai/mission-dynamicism doesn’t mean next-gen for me, just that they’ve got good coders. But hey I don’t know anything about game design so I’m probably wrong, I was just throwing my opinion there.
Ubisoft really pushed the boundaries with the original Assassin’s Creed in 2007. No one had ever attempted a game of that scope before. Dynamic crowds, free roaming parkour- it sounded crazy on paper. This game seems to keep that sort of “this is gaming’s future” feel, hence why people say this is “next-gen.”
I’m looking forward to playing it.
I have a hard time believing that, though I haven’t seen GTAIV maxed out. Do you have a video or something? And don’t link that Icenhancer shit.
This.
I’m curious as to how they would handle individual character AI so they don’t all end up being repetitive.
If they could make a system where AI could dynamically interact with one another (kinda like oblivion/skyrim but way better) and talk using thousands of pre-made conversations, it could make for a much more “real” feeling environment.
By eye, I can see they’ve shown subsurface scattering, bokeh DOF blur, per pixel motion blur, global illumination, and indirect illumination, none of which are in any Rage engine game. Actually, bokeh blur may have been in Max Payne 3. Not sure. The assets are all much higher quality than in GTAIV, and the texture resolution on the characters are OBVIOUSLY way more detailed. Plus, all the charcters seemed to have at least one bit of cloth hanging off of them. There was also WIND. Scarfs and trenchcoats were blowing in the wind all at the same time. I’ve NEVER seen a game with cloth simulation AND some kind of current system.
What the fuck were you watching the video in? 240p?
Wow, I didn’t even notice that much detail. Judging by your description, I have to upgrade my PC or it will be melted.
And the thing is, vanilla GTA IV is not even supposed to look photorealistic, seeing as Rockstar went with a slightly exaggerated and stylized look for it, while Watch Dogs is clearly going for the photorealism look. So unless Imonfire is trying to unsuccessfully troll us or something, then he clearly needs eye surgery.
I watched it again and while I saw some stuff I hadn’t noticed like the wind and cloth physics, and I agree that it is more detailed than GTA IV, it still doesn’t sound so next-gen to me. It is, yes, more technologically-advanced than most games out there currently, but it’s not a massive step forward like we’ve seen in 2005/2006, especially if it will be downgraded for current consoles.
Artistic direction =/= visual quality.
I don’t think they are aiming for current generation consoles. I think they are planning for the next one, seeing as how they aren’t even planning for a launch date within the next year.
This is the type of game that could get me to play a 3rd person shooter (most of the games I play are in 1st), if they can make the final product play as open ended as what they were hinting at in the demo (which I am sure is more scripted than they want it to be).
What do you think Next Gen is?
A massive step forward from many developers producing many games at the same time so it’s more of a generation and not just a single thing, the release of new consoles to accommodate these games, etc.
If it sets a trend and other developers follow it, then I shall stand corrected.
So basically, you have no fucking idea.
