Watch Dogs

That.

Also, in GTA, the risks (ie police going after you like a horny dude after a pussy) outweigh the rewards, IMHO.

honestly the whole scare about GTA (or any open world game with violence as a game mechanic) raising an army of 9 year old killers is long over and is clearly just another fad for the press to scapegoat to rustle up stubborn soccermoms and/or politicians who are mentally stuck in 1997

people should get over it and realize that people do bad things because they are bad, they dont need a petty video game to tell them how

Oorah!

Your two cents are worthless.

Going on murdering rampages on a GTA game is part of how it’s meant to be played.

Denying that is like saying you like to drink beer only for the taste and not for the alcohol kick.

The game never at any point forces or encourages you to do it though. You do it because the choice is there and you want to do it. I agree, going on a rampage in GTA is fun, and always has been. But that’s because you enjoy it, not because the game is telling you you need to do it to progress or anything. Now that I think about it, GTAIII had the rampage missions though, but I think it was the only one that did (haven’t played 1 and 2 enough to know if they do too; plus they were optional).

I’m just trying to say that restricting what the player is able to do in an open world game for no reason, or because “the character wouldn’t do this or that” is not a very good thing to do and any game that has done that has had it felt forced.

GTA: Vice City also had Rampage missions. Completely unnecessary to complete the game.

Face it, you go on rampages because you like KILLING SHIT THAT CAN’T DEFEND ITSELF.

There’s a difference between that and single-handedly neutralizing a player-controlled (even) fireteam-sized element in any other game. Especially ArmA, actually.

Are we really going to talk about morality in violent videogames? We’re talking about GT fucking A, trying to play the game peacefully gives you fucking squat. You are meant to be a wild beast while playing those games.

So does going on rampages and killing innocents. Obviously the game is about killing, like most games, but you’re killing people who are trying to kill you, which isn’t the same thing.

I mean, I’m not really trying to talk about morality or anything, just that games should not restrict what you do in an open world, but at the same time these kinds of games shouldn’t force you to do things that the character wouldn’t do. None of the GTA protags are heartless monsters that would just indiscriminately kill innocent people (and neither is Aiden), but that doesn’t mean that the game should just not let you kill innocent people with some game mechanic that kills your suspension of disbelief.

Have you met Trevor?

Anyway, I’m not saying you should always go for random killing rampages while playing those games, what I’m saying is that some of those games are not built to reward you for being peaceful either, so might as well have some fun sometimes.

People who are trying to kill you are hostile combatants, and depending on your ROE, fair game. And again, ROE is often weapons RED, YELLOW or GREEN; RED meaning to hold your fire at all costs (illogical, I know), YELLOW is often described as return fire only (AKA “I’m being stealthy bitch, POOF I’M GONE”), and GREEN means you’re allowed to blast away if you see an enemy.

ROE againist civilians is ALWAYS RED.
ROE againist hostile combatants often shifts from YELLOW to GREEN.

If you NEED to kill innocents, GTFO.

Maxey, we’re arguing for the same thing but differently.

If you NEED to restrict gameplay for no reason, GTFO.

Yeah, Kairo.

Anyway, I hope Serza doesn’t get arrested by the real Police for accidentally running over an old man in GTA.

They’re not innocent because they’re not fucking real.

Killing a civillian in a videogame isn’t analogous to killing a real person, it’s analogous to popping fucking bubble wrap.

Why do I bother, again?

Because you’re not objectively right. You’re trying to convince us that killing civilians in games is wrong when it’s clearly a subjective matter. Don’t kill innocent people in games if you don’t want to but don’t try to impose that on the rest of us.

Angry Joe interview. The spider is a virtual game within the game. It isn’t part of the reality. It’s just something else to do for fun.

Ding Ding Ding

for me the fun in GTA 3/VC/SA was finding hilarious ways to break the game either with mods or cheats, or both

ever since GTA 4 game out I also enjoy running away from the cops with fast cars, since you don’t have to go to the pay-n-spray to lose the wanted level since gta4
