Looks pretty good. At least it’s more easily compared to the original trailer than all those bright daylight trailers. That lightning looks awful though.
I see most of the effects are back on PC. For the colors, at least we know that wasn’t an engine nerf but artistic decision and a bad one I must add.
my CPU is just right (and mean RIGHT) below recommended amd cpu (fx 8350 4hz)
welp, time to OC my 8320…
holy shit this looks fucking astounding and you’re still complaining
Am I not allowed to point out flaws? And I said the game looked good. I’m still not going to get excited about it until it’s in people’s hands though.
I like the reflective surfaces, shame they didn’t apply them to buildings/windows as well.
Those sunshafts… ehh. Wish more games would use volumetric lighting (like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat, which also had awesome lightning) instead of screen-space sunshafts.
The grass looks pretty good
So it’s finally available on Steam…
And has been for the past week or two.
I find it interesting that the announcement hasn’t shown up for a while, at least for me.
Well, blame Steam, as I said, it popped up like a week or two ago for me.
Check the last page where I said I ordered it. I believe that was the first day it was up for grabs on April 7th.
God damn it, Ubisoft. A SPIDER DROID? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!? This reeks of upper management attempting to get “cool stuff” into the game to bring in the LCD, rather than actually sticking to an open world stealth feel that’s been billed in the last forty odd trailers for this game.
The invasion of single player mechanics look positively tone-breaking as well, if you’re like me and wanted to play the game as pure-stealth as possible. Multiplayer looks fun, though.
But damn it! Why did Watch Dogs have to go and conform to open world mayhem tropes? The story, the atmosphere, felt much more like an interactive thriller, a stealth game experience yet unseen. But a fucking spider droid. NO! We need people to play the game, so throw in a giant robot at the last minute to get the dudebros to buy!
This could probably even go in the rage topic. I am so, so angry right now. They’re pulling the same bullshit Tomb Raider pulled by cramming the game to the gills with elements that won’t necessarily reinforce the tone or the story.
The actual gameplay sounds pretty cool from that article. I suspect I won’t use multiplayer at all and hopefully I can turn off the invasion stuff too. And yeah, the spider tank is stupid. I hope that’s not forced on you and is kind of like the tanks in the GTA games, just something you can use if you want to.
Edit: Also the guy was complaining that there’s no real consequences for going on a rampage outside of missions but there’s really no way to put a limit on that in this type of game without it getting even worse. Like in that Scarface game, where you just can’t kill civilians at all and the game will tell you that Tony Montana never killed civilians, or like in Assassin’s Creed where killing innocent people drains your health. I much prefer little to no consequences rather than the game being like the other two I mentioned.
Only a VERY, VERY strange person kills civilians in games unless specifically told to do so.
If you hate a game because it doesn’t allow you to kill civilians, there is something VERY, VERY wrong with you.
My two cents.
It’s just an arbitrary lock that feels forced. I don’t hate games that don’t let me do it, and I generally don’t just go around killing people, but it’s the same thing as having children in games be invincible, it’s just some lock on gameplay for the sake of something (generally with children it’s for PC purposes). What’s the point in even having an open world if you’re going to heavily control what the player does in this open world? Not to mention that having something that literally stops your gun from firing if it’s pointed at a civilian could cause issues with gameplay if you’re in a shootout and there are civilians getting in the way. And they haven’t done this with driving yet. The next step here would be making cars go right through civilians because you don’t want the player controlling them, which would take people out of the game even more.
Not saying restricting civilian deaths totally is the right way - but they should be SEVERELY discouraged.
Say, something along the lines of “Kill too many civilians, you’ll get the fight of your life on your hands” - the kind of fight that will most likely result in the player being overwhelmed anyway, with a big fat “GAME OVER”. Possibly with having to restart last mission, instead of going from a checkpoint.
This would also take basis in real life. If hostage-takers will go around executing hostages, all hell’s going to break loose.
On the other hand, stealth gameplay (with civilians not even knowing anything is happening) should be encouraged where applicable.
Just… anything that makes collateral civilian casualties undesirable, really.
Maybe not the best solution, this thing I’m offering, but it’s the best I can come up with at midnight.
You have never heard of GTA have you?
As much as people like to call GTA a murder simulator, the game really never encourages or rewards you (though I suppose the money people drop could be seen as a reward, but money outside of mission payments in GTA has always been useless) for killing innocent people. It’s just the choice is there because the game doesn’t restrict you. Which is how I think it should be done. If you don’t think it fits with the character then don’t kill innocent people, but it shouldn’t be restricted in 99% of circumstances. We should be moving towards more gameplay freedom, not less.
