Watch Dogs

Well, there was during E3 2012. I was rather floored by the demo- coat physics, insanely smooth animations. But of course, the gas station explosion was ridiculously exaggerated for the demo and you can’t actually do that in-game.

I had better be able to vault across the hood of a car while double-tapping them in the face and picking up their gun in one smooth motion, though. That bit was hype as shit.

Played the game for a bit. Runs better than I was expecting from all the comments I’ve seen about it. Of course I’m running mostly on high. Driving isn’t very good but I’m finding walking around and just doing random things like messing with traffic lights and stuff to be pretty fun.

Still waiting for Steam to allow me to download and install…

Watch Dogs vs. GTA IV comparison
edit: Watch Dogs just released in Australia on Steam.

Steam price for the game was showing $59.99 USD until yesterday, now it’s $74.95 USD :hmph:

EDIT: and the season pass jumped from $19.99 to $27.95

That’s pretty horrible what they done dude.

edit:
I mean why would we even buy Triple A games at that price in oz? I mean we just get it somewhere else cheaper, like I did with Wolfenstein: The New Order that got it from GMG.

Preloading on Steam right now

Is this video accurate?

^I did notice that at least most of the time headlights don’t cast shadows. I remember one time the helicopter spotlight did though. Didn’t notice the stairs thing but it looks right. There are destructible things in Watch Dogs, and some of them are pretty cool, but it does look like walls don’t get damage models. You do get blood on cars I think when you shoot people but it looks like not when hitting people with the car. I don’t know what they’re talking about with the water. The water is much, much better in Watch Dogs than it is in GTAIV.

It does look like window reflections are prerendered in Watch Dogs, which is weird, because it does have a lot of real time reflections. So yeah, pretty much everything in that video is more or less true, minus I would say the bodies of water, which are much better than in GTAIV. Kind of sad that next gen is pretty much a farce so far.

Edit: Also, Nvidia’s Watch Dogs release drivers are out. Interested to see how much performance it gives me.

Edit 2: Also, to be fair, GTAIV is again, an awful port. The night shadows option, which enables shadows in headlights (and I think only works at night) is a massive performance hog in an already pretty poorly running game. Doesn’t excuse WD’s worse than last gen things, though I hope GTAV is much better on PC than GTAIV, and I can see it blowing WD out of the water honestly whenever it ends up coming out.

And what about this:

I don’t know. It sounds like some butt-hurt raunchy crackhead who goes and whines on a black mesa forum about a game he pirated which is not a final copy and plays it on a PC that barely plays solitaire and has soviet era drivers.
This thread is full of douchefags.

And this guy is complaining about the game because the tracks problem was fixed? The bar thing remains to be seen.

I haven’t really tried the majority of this stuff but the game does have a lot of issues and I don’t see where all the time of the delay went to.

I just really, really don’t want this game to suck. I’ve had a preorder for limited for a year, so since I’m about to blow $150 on the game I have a right to be concerned as to whether it’s worth my money.

You’re telling me…points to avatar :frowning:

Restrain your boner there buddy. I chose not to ride the hype train, and from here Watch Dogs looks like it might not deliver. Well given expectations, I think it’s pretty safe to say that Watch Dogs won’t, at least fully, deliver.

The graphics definitely are disappointing at the very least, especially on the consoles. The “next-gen” consoles sure are a shit show.

I get the feeling Ubisoft was banking on next gen consoles to raise the bar much higher visually than it wound up being, and then had to trim things down massively to get it to fit on the “next gen” specs.

another thing i noticed is that pedestrians have lower quality voice sounds compared to main characters; i noticed the same thing with Far Cry 3 (just listen to a random island native or pirate and then listen to a Story Character’s voice, the difference is striking)

its like they gave the voice actors of background characters 1999 microphones

and so far most games on these new consoles havent really been living up to that “OMG N3XT G3N!!!111!” hype those journalists love to spit out, fact is these new consoles arent even that big of a leap (Theres a reason PC technology overpowered these consoles before they even came out; yet when the 360 and ps3 came out, they did just that to the PC for a great deal of time, mainly due to their exotic hardware architecture which was the main reason for those shoddy PC ports we’ve been having, and also cuz devs made it lead platform for the long while that gen lasted)

so far the only game that even remotely lived up to the " NEXT-GEN™ " hype (including that whole 1080p and 60fps blastprocessorizing) is Wolfenstein The New Order and (hopfully) the upcoming Metro Redux (because Metro still has jaw dropping graphics after 3-4 years)

it would be painful if these current consoles had to endure nearly a decade lifespan just like the 360 and ps3

Blame Ubisoft for the weak graphics. Infamous Second Son runs miles around it in every department and I’m sure Naughty Dog will fucking blow it out of the water as always.

Naughty Dog has always been super crazy about exploiting PS hardware to its fullest. I just wish Studio LIVERPOOL was still doing material so we could get another HD Wipeout game.

I know, and I noticed a trend about the whole 1080p@60FPS thing, is that people are always pointing at upcoming titles being 1080p@60FPS on consoles, but never at currently released titles because they always end up being 900p@40FPS.(except for Nintendo wii u titles, which of course do end up being 1080p@60FPS)

Also GTAIV, (though it’s an older game that has been patched several times) is officially the superior port in this case, it runs extremely well even on my antiquated setup, 1080p@300FPS with shadows disabled or 1080p@50-60FPS with all shadows on maximum.
