Watch Dogs

The main story(apparently) seems to be pretty short and not all that good, but the ton of interesting sidequests/races/minigames make up for it.Driving is described to be similar to the one in Driver - San Francisco(Ubisoft Reflections worked on this aspect of the game so no wonder there). One thing that the majority of people are praising is the profiling of NPCs as there doesn’t seem to be a shortage of interesting/unique characters.

The game is not officially out yet but those who got their hands on the review copies have been sharing their impressions for quite some time now.

its kind of ironic that a game about hacking got leaked so early :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway I can already confirm it’s an average port, maybe it could run great on a haswell extreme edition, but it chokes pretty badly on my Core 2 Quad q9550@3.4Ghz, 4GB DDR2 800 and a Ghz edition Radeon HD7870 2GB and I can’t get a stutter-free experience at any graphics settings. Even though I get pretty much 60FPS everywhere in Saints Row 4 and Far Cry 3.

At everything ultra and msaa 8x enabled I get 0.3FPS at 1080p

:fffuuu:

Your Graphics card is severely bottlenecked by your CPU and especially RAM.

Are your drivers up to date?

Are all PC versions of this game on Steam? I’m asking because in my country retail preorders in shops are a lot cheaper than steam preorder

The funny thing is I also have a Core i7 (2.8Ghz turbo boost) laptop with 8GB DDR3 and a SATA III SSD, but it only has a Radeon HD5650. So Either the GPU or the rest of the system will be my bottleneck. Anyway due to the better GPU, I get way more frames per second on the Core 2 Quad than on the Core i7.

So…unless you got those two for free it’s hard to understand why would you have those kind of setups(for gaming anyway). You can get a CPU wiith 6-8 cores between 90-120 euros and 8 GB of RAM for less than 50 euros.

All of them (except the GPU) scavenged from people who upgraded to something newer.

Also I recently sold my 2x2GB DDR2 1066Mhz so I can’t overclock to 4.1Ghz like I used to. :frowning:

Well the retail copy of the game Watch Dogs I can tell you it’s only supports Uplay, so yeah don’t expect all retail games to support Steam i.e. Battlefield 4.

You can get the Steam UI running under it, but instead of the game executable you have to hyperlink the game’s Uplay executable instead. It’s a bit hackish, but it works for ACIII and ACIV.

Watch Dogs torrent secretly installing a Bitcoin miner on thousands of computers

That is true.

Oh yeah, that I forget to mention.

That’s hilariously ironic.

Looks like Ubisoft is once again being lazy with their graphics scaling. There is a difference between low and ultra there but it isn’t as large as it should be. Of course it’s a video and not actually playing the game so you’ll see less of a difference there anyway. Are benchmarks out yet? Given that an Nvidia tech trailer was released it seems it’ll run better on Nvidia but at the same time this is Ubisoft so you should expect low GPU usage while still getting poor performance. Can’t wait to try it out myself.

Game does look pretty good though from what I’ve seen. Graphics wise that is.

Found this on Facepunch.

There is no way the game uses over 5GB VRAM. There has to be an issue with his copy.

Also I’m hearing stuff that the whole bitcoin mining thing is a hoax to dissuade people from pirating.

I think the game might deliberately use almost all available VRAM

Here’s a video of someone running Ultra 1920x1080 on a single GTX 780 3GB, getting 60 - 90 FPS

EDIT: Oh, he’s “only” using high textures, didn’t see that part

“reasonable settings” pfff

Haha that Facepunch guy has the world’s biggest Watchdogs hardon. Once I get my hands on a bitminer free post release torrent of Watchdogs, I’ll be running it at 2560x1440 with my R9 290, expecting to max out everything except for maybe AA (assuming not piss poor optimization on Ubi’s part). It’s really not that good looking a game, especially during day sequences. I feel like the general hype surround the game has bled over into hype about the graphics even though there’s really nothing spectacular about the graphics.

I told u guys it wasn’t my old CPU and RAM, I lowered the HBAO to low, removed the bitminer… now absolutely no issues whatsoever. (with textures high) getting 30-60FPS

I have a few complaints about the game itself, first, the population of Chicago seems to be making way too much money in general, haven’t seen a single homeless man in the ghetto who is making less than 15 000 a year… Also car handling is very Saints Row style, also I still haven’t found a way to fire my gun while driving a car. And lastly, night to day transition is too fast IMO, obviously they couldn’t outdo GTA but it just seems to fade from night to day in about 10 seconds, but the sunset skybox is pretty nice.

This is a Steam sale game for me.

I was never too hyped for this game, anyway.
