Valve's E3 Suprise?

Bump maps are not always the same as normal maps. Bump maps tend to concern only the height of a pixel for lighting, while normal maps concern X, Y, and Z values for lighting.

In Source terms, the two terms are usually interchangeable as far as I know. The Parallax effect is different and comes from Parallax Mapping.

I’m not a texture guy so I’m just saying what’s off the top of my head here…

normal maps appear flat from an angle, bump maps will appear 3D

most new games involve bump normal maps

Bump maps do not appear 3d at an angle.
Parallax maps do.

^This.

The source engine has maps you play on them and walk around in them. Honestly it doesn’t matter what the map is as long as it looks good

:hmph:

Technically true.

lol. You said, “on tape.” I don’t think anything’s “on tape” anymore.

Unless you’re still using your VCR to “tape” G4’s Live E3 coverage.

In a more useful answer: Youtube it, its probably floating around somewhere in their tubes.

I wrote that in hopes it was a valid expression in english, if not I thought it would sound a bit funny.

And, TYVM, but I’ve already found the vid I was looking for. Days ago. And every other VALVe related vid from E3 for that matter.

what was the surprise?

Lern2Google. In any case, Portal 2 on the PS3.

Never mind the fact that his avatar is near identical in design?

Yeah, honestly if you don’t see the connection you’re fucking blind.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
