Valve working on new Source engine

DMM would be pretty damn awesome.

For some reason I think Valve will incorporate a whole new physics engine apart from Havoc that is made to compete with PhysX. A lot of people give Nvidia shit for PhysX since usually it’s only Nvidia cards that can run it remotely well, so a competitor that benefits both AMD and Nvidia would be a welcome feature.

Plus it could grant them the ability to go completely independent license wise, whatever that advantage would be. No thirdparty anything.

Valve no longer uses Havoc. The use an in house physics system. This is irrelevant however because you are confused, PhysX isn’t a physcs engine the way Havoc is or Valve in-house engine is, its a system for gpu accelerated physics.

Since when has Valve not used Havok? I’m pretty sure I’ve seen that screen in every Valve game.

Source still uses a heavily modified version of Havok.

So according to you guys, which game will benefit Source 2 first ?

Well, I’d guess they would go with a big bang by going straight to HL3.

next HL hopefully

Ricochet 2. :stuck_out_tongue:

The smart thing to do would be HL3, but I could honestly see Valve throwing a curve-ball (as if HL3 in itself wasn’t one) our way and give us a brand new I.P. designed around mechanics made possible by the new engine.

ugh. even though I know it would probably be great.

While I would like a new IP from valve, honestly if the first title to ship with source 2 isn’t HL3 I’d be kinda disappointed.

I wonder if it is HL3 if valve will do anything special for multiplayer this time around other then deathmatch.

It would be cool if the engine made use of this, if unlimited detail was released and ready to use for developers.

That unlimited detail thing is a scam. He’s been working on that for years and still looks the same every time, no noticeable improvements or innovations.

Really? If so, :’(

me too :’(

If that were an actual technology, I’d expect to hear more about it, given how revolutionary it would be.

even if it’s bullshit, I think that’s the next step in gaming visuals(end of polygons)

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
