Strategically speaking, they might not use DX at all. If they’re serious about the Linux push then they’ll probably want to go with OpenGL for consistency’s sake.

DirectX still runs better than open GL under microshaft.

I hope they implement DX 11.0 with tesselation and the new shader model, it allows games to look a lot better than on Directx 9. DirectX 11.1 offers non-required features like stereoscopic 3D built-in, while windows 7 users use their GPU control panel or a custom d3d9.dll file to enable stereoscopic 3D in games…

Yep, I’m expecting Valve’s next engine to be pretty much 100% OpenGL. Especially since 11.1 is Windows 8 only.

I think they’ll do DX11 while still having the option to switch back to DX9 for the sake of consoles and older hardware.

There will almost definitely be dx11 consoles by the time this engine sees the light of day.

I hate how integrated gfx have shit OpenGL support. My laptop has trouble playing GLQuake and GZDoom just because they are OGL. :frowning:

Considering Valve’s promise to release Mac and Windows games simultaneously from Portal 2 onwards, I doubt they’ll focus on DX11 features.

Unless MS stops being a little bitch and opens op DirectX for global use (but they know fully well that DirectX is one of the biggest sellingpoints of Windows, so they never will).

OpenGL can do whatever you want it to do, that’s the whole idea behind it.
