US Health Care Bill!

This isn’t so much for debating about health care (although it’s unavoidable). I’m starting this thread because you can watch the vote right now on CSPAN.
Basically, if the House of Representatives passes this vote, we as Americans get some basic health care reforms that we’ve been waiting 3 decades for. There’s also most likely going to be a minor riot on the national mall as a few thousand teapartiers pitch a hissy fit that the vote didn’t go their way.

If the bill passes, I’d be happy to welcome Americans to the rest of the civilized world.
If it doesn’t, then, oh well. Enjoy not being able to afford healthcare next time you break a limb.

I, for one, am supremely pissed off by this bill…though not for the reasons that many people (including those in the MSM) believe:

I am pissed off at this bill because it does too little. I’m pissed off that it’s not real reform. I’m pissed off that we started on the right and made more and more concessions to the Right even though none of them had any intention of passing anything Obama or the Democrats put forth. I’m pissed that it took so long with infighting on the Democratic side (federal funding for abortions is already illegal, you asshats!).

That said, I hope the bill passes and then they begin nearly right away with fixing the problems in it.

It’s going to pass - It’s actually only basic reforms, it doesn’t really bring us up to par with other 1st-world countries. Better than nothing.

Yes. The government will be providing subsidies if you can’t afford to pay for it yourself.

I have little faith in the bill passing.

Americans tend to shun the word “socialism”, and this bill smells of socialism, even if it’s only a slight oder.

Except that this bill is the furthest thing for socialism as you can possibly get.

Well, I’m not watching, and I haven’t really followed the entire health-care-debate the past few months. All I know is that Obama wanted to introduce a proper health care system, and that health care is pretty socialist as far as terminology goes.

But as I said, I have no idea how the current bill looks like, I just know that a lot of people still hate it (and oppose the mere thought of having health care).

Hm. What, in your opinion, is “socialist” about this bill or any of the other versions thereof?

The way I feel about it is simple physics, it’s impossible for anything going in one direction to immediately go in the opposite direction. It needs to slow down & stop first. I think today’s vote represents that stopping moment, and when it’s over there will be momentum in the opposite direction (proper national health care).
