US Goverment allows Gay & Lesbians to join the army

so I read on the morning pepper about this article and I found to be really interesting, what ya think about this folk ? will it backfire or it’ll be much better ?

~discuss…

I thought only fags joined the military anyway?

I have no problems with gays, so I don’t really care.

“openly” Gay & Lesbian

well…don’t get the wrong Idea, it’s not about whether you had a problem with them or not, it’s how will the straight soldiers react to them ya know :stuck_out_tongue:

About time

A soldier’s a soldier. If someone who’s gay has the same determination to join the military then it shouldn’t matter whether they are or not.

Now, I say shouldn’t, it obviously well, but we’ll have to see.

Good. It should’ve been allowed in the first place.

Yeah it’s not like they can know unless they use a lie detector when you sign up or something.

If someone has a problem with someone in their ranks, then THAT person has the issue that they need to work out.

If you’re going to be trusting your life to your compatriots, the last thing you want is deception. Don’t you agree?

As was mentioned, why so long?

Because it’s the US.

(and seriously, this is a valid answer)

I hear you Bolteh - In Canada, we are not so far behind/ahead of them with some social issues - At least we are moving forward, and that is a good thing.

It’s funny because I thought they did this already.

But…

but…

Gays are too precious to risk in combat !!!

No. This is bad. Key on “openly” homosexual.

It’s as bad as if we kept the men and women who served together; and they’re segregated for many reasons, but one main one. It’s a sexual distraction. “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” worked wonders because it kept the combat environment serious.

So you think gay guys who are going to be fighting for their lives are going to be playing grabass with other soldiers in their unit?

You’re an idiot.

As I see you’re from “De greaaat state of Geooorgia,” I leave this with you: reread my post, albeit it short, do it carefully.

First of all, I’m not from Georgia. I was born in California and was raised in Pennsylvania. Don’t be quick to judge.

Second of all, yes, I saw how you wrote about it being a “sexual distraction.” There were, I assume, already gay men and women in the military under “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” who were obviously capable of doing their jobs. People can stop their sexual urges, maybe you can’t repress yourself, but that doesn’t mean nobody can.

I see where you’re coming from with that argument, but I still see nothing wrong with “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell,” how was it discriminatory? I say it should still be in place. If they’re truly serious about fighting for their country, why should the be even worrying about their sexuality- that is, if they can repress their “sexual urges,” as you said.
