Hello I have a Core 2 Duo Wolfdale 3.0ghz prossesor and, I want to overclock it heavily. Can somebody recommend to me the best heatsink for this prossesor? Thank you.
Best air cooler out there is the Thermalright Ultra 120 Ex. You can get others from Zalman, Noctua and Thermaltake. I myself use a Xigmatek S1283, which was very good value at the time. I can overclock my Q6600 to 3.5GHz and still keep temps under 50C at moderate load.
Best cooling you can get is water cooling, but unless you want to drop $200 on a water cooling system, you might not want it.
A good heatsink is going to cost you $50+. Scoping out some online reviews would probably be your best bet.
You dont need one dude, manufactures make it up to make you spend more money. remove the orginal heat sync and overclock away, the temps will stay low.
Trust me, i’m a doctor.
Are you out of your god damned mind? That isn’t true at all.
It’s silent, and you can pretty much make it dump the heat somewhere else than in your face.
But cooling-wise, are you saying air is better than water cooling? Or are you implying of other ridiculous things like sinking your computer in a liquid nitrogen pool?
When you say such things, it’s usually fun if you provide stats, links, or examples… To counter an opinion with a different opinion, without any argument, is pretty useless. I don’t know/care who is right or not, btw.
I guess I could go into more detail, but the very idea that water is ‘the best’ is just totally out there. Water cooling isn’t ‘the best’ at anything. It is far from the coolest running, and it is far from the most convenient. Phase change is the coolest and easiest way to get sum zero temperatures, and can do it for less than 200 bucks. You can get a chilly1 unit for that price and it will get below -200C on the core in some cases. It’s far simpler to get running as well.
The easiest is air cooling of course, because of the low cost and rather impressive capabilities of modern air coolers.
The one thing water set ups have is only slightly cooler temps, that don’t really make much difference in the end, and silence. But with modern silent high CFM fans, that point is becoming greatly irrelevant.
It’s true water cooling is better but I just want to use air cooling for now, also where is the Thermalright Ultra 120 Ex.
I would only suggest that if you have money to burn. You can get coolers that will do better, and serve your purpose for far cheaper. One of those nice Xigmatek coolers may not get the amazing numbers the TRUE, but the small difference won’t hold you back in any way.
In terms of temperature. I wasn’t factoring in costs, noise, or how much work it is.
It doesn’t really matter in what terms you use. That statement is in no way correct.
It’s correct when you’re referring to temperature, you said it yourself.
SLIGHTLY cooler than air. It’s not even close to the best for cooling.
You said:
Better yet, build your comp in a beer fridge.
That would cause your computer to overheat.
What’s the best then? I don’t think fire, earth, heart or captain planet are better cooling.
I’d assume that, according to his post.
Do they not have any restrictions on buying Liquid Nitrogen over there?
Only doctors and qualified trades persons can get it over here.
Most places you have to be at least 18 to get it, but aside from that, not really.
A friend of mine that works in an industrial plant had access to cylinder after cylinder of the shit for free.
