Unreal Engine 4 Demo

So here it finally is. The Unreal Engine 4 Demo.

Now, i’m not really into game engines, so i don’t really have a lot to say, other than the fact that it looks brilliant.

An extra article here if you want to read about it:

Holy shit

Glad to see they’re making improvements to post-processing effects so developers can make games with even more annoying and unrealistic lens flare and motion blur effects and other shit to obstruct your view of the game.

I thought it was pretty. Loved the snow and lava flowing effects.

I thought the whole thing looked like one of Blizzard’s CGI trailers. I’d have to see how it handles a game first.

I also note the conspicuous absence of the mountain range area from the cinematic in the demo of the WYSIWIG editor. If they had flown outside and shown that miles of terrain was being run in real time I would have shit bricks.

I hope it really does decrease development time. They’re gonna need all the help they can get come next gen. I’d love to work with it.

I actually wasn’t impressed with this as much as I was by the Samaritan demo. I guess it’s because the Samaritan demo had a bunch of stuff in it that I had real references of.

That doesn’t mean this doesn’t look fucking great, however. In fact, UE may have gone from having one of the worst effects suites I’ve ever seen to having the best.

The point of that tech demo was really more to show the awesome editor and the fantastic particle and lighting systems.

It doesn’t really matter what the general public thinks of it anyway, tech demos serve to sell engines to game companies, not to the average joe, and most games using that engine won’t look that good in the first place.

Besides, we all know UE4 will sell like mad either way.

Pretty good and close, but it needs just a tiny little bit more imo.

Those lava balls shooting up in the editor demonstration really reminded me of lava in Quake 1

I hope we get a new UDK based on this, I would totally jump on the Unreal bandwagon if we do.

Also, that blueprint system looks EXACTLY like the CryEngine flowgraph system

Minecraft looks better.

It has a better level editor too.

As long as the shitty self shadowing is fixed from UE3, I’ll be happy with UE4. I haven’t watched the dev video yet, so I dunno if they talked about it there. I’ll watch it later though.

Looks nice, too bad the only thing of note Epic is going to do with it is the next 3+ GOW games.

So what engine is that PC exclusive they announced gonna run on, UE3 or 4? I’m guessing 3 since it might be a little too early for 4, but it would be nice.

Who gives a fuck what Epic is going to do with it when there are companies like Rocksteady, Gearbox, and Irrational games out there?

how much is it to license this shit?

all of it.
