Unconventional Use of Weapons

In the Half-Life series, there are many ways you can use weapons, even in ways other than how you’re “supposed” to use them. For example, in HL1, you can place tripmines on walls and stand on them, you can use the gauss gun to jump higher, etc…

Give examples of how you use your weapons in unusual ways. You can mention weapons from other games as well.

In HL2, I use the bugbait a lot and throw them at the combine to distract them, making them easy targets. It never runs out and you can distract an entire group with them, so it’s really handy!

throw helmets at your foes

In Farcry 2, I would use dirty and beat-up RPG-7s because their rockets would just fall to the ground and dance around before exploding. This was obviously symbolizing that they were too dirty to work properly.

I used them as time bombs and would often fire one directly at my feet and then bait others to the location of the rocket. Easy mines.

Which actually did happen during the Korean war.

Pulling headstraps of helmet hard that the neck breaks.

Also was in the FM of Korean military during the Korean war.

meleeing.

I like using the Magnum in HL2 as a sniper rifle with the Zoom key. The Crossbow often gets used at short range rather than long since it puts people down in one hit.

Anti Tank Grenades versus Ivan. Ivan wasn’t too happy to find himself missing 2 arms strapped to a steel bed in a POW camp

Stacking things in HL2 to block the AI.
For example, in route canal, you come across a closed gate right before the red barn. You have to fight through two buildings to get to the switch. On the way in the first building is mostly empty, and there is a mounted gun in the corner. I like to pile up everything in that corner so the AI can’t get to that mounted gun on my way back through when the combine are trying to contain me for opening the gate… It makes things soooo much easier!

conc jumping in tfc anyone?

Sometimes I use magical pieces of metal that launch small projectiles quickly into the enemies’ bodies. Only on special occasions, however.

Using the secondary fire on the buggy-mounted Tau gun in HL2 to clear an area before progressing. For example, the big fight right before you have to disembark and travel across the underside of the bridge: spam secondary-fire into the buildings for a few minutes, and it kills most of the soldiers who would have come out and tried to fight you.

Using trip mines to crash servers

Sometimes in HL2 I throw a grenade, wait a second, then throw another grenade to use the blast of the first to launch the second one through the air.

In the HL2 beta you can kill enemies by tossing barrels into them with your bare hands.

Shit was so satisfying.

When I’m on a catwalk above an enemy, I sometimes toss a grenade onto the floor next to me, pick it up, and drop it down a floor.

Other than that, not much besides tossing things with the gravgun.
…Oh, does the crane in Highway 17 count?
