Turbo boost

Hey all,

I’ve got a second computer, a desktop, being paid off and due to be picked up in a month. Most of the system specs I at least have a basic understanding of, but there is one thing that gets me.

For the Desktop Specifications it has:
CPU Detail: 2.66GHz, 8MB Cache (up to 3.2GHz with turbo boost)

What does Turbo Boost mean? Is it an extra kick the system gives to your processor to bring it up to 3.2GHz when you need that extra processor speed? Or is it something else?

Any help with this question would be great.

Probably a quick toggle for overclocking the CPU.

Either that, or this:

I friggin loved this show when it aired on polish tv back when I was a kid. So many memories…

Oh, and on topic:

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
