This Weapon on That Enemy

Okay, I had just played through Half-Life and OpFor recently and experimented with the different weapons on certain enemies. Now if were possible, I would use the Gluon Gun for every scenario, but there’s a scarcity of ammo.

I found alien weapons such as Hivehand and Shockroach to be horrible against there users. Other than that the Shockroach is extremely effective on other aliens and grunts. Hivehand sucks, hands down. Best alien weapon would be the Spore Launcher. Great for every situation. In HL1, Snarks were the best weapon for handling grunts when I had low health. Perfect distraction for me to get past them all.

So peeps, post your preferred weapons and selections for handling certain enemies.

I think that this belongs on the Half-Life Series board, instead of the Cafeteria.

Indeed, since it has nothing to do with the mod. [COLOR=‘Red’]Moved.

Oops, my bad. I thought Cafeteria was more of a general discussion sub-forum. I didn’t know it was purely for the mod. This place in confusing :S

Combine - shotgun.
Zombie - shotgun.
Headcrab - RPG.

Aliens: Pistol, Shotgun, or SMG/9mmAR
Soldiers (Combine or Human): Shotgun, SMG/9mmAR
Scientists: [COLOR=‘Black’]Why would I want to do that?
That grunt that stands on the building in ST: Crossbow

It depends on your situation too. I commonly snipe my enemies, before they can even get in range to shoot back at me, using the pistol. I use the revolver when I expect to only have one shot to finish them conveniently with. I often prefer to use these over the crossbow as the shot travels faster. This is only the case if I’m playing with crosshairs turned on.

Hivehand has its purposes too. I’ve found it most effective against the Alien Controllers, as using the hivehand on them allows you to focus on dodging those psychic blasts they throw at you instead of aiming. The blasts are easy to dodge provided that’s all you’re concentrating on. The same is true for dealing with any bullsquid at a distance, but close range on anything pretty much defaults to Shotgun being the best response, unless you’re conserving shotgun ammo. Hivehand is also excellent for headcrabs, houndeyes, and the occasional zombie when you want to conserve your pistol ammo but not have to get close to use your crowbar.

My main loadout for On A Rail was a magnum and a shotgun. It had it’s uses. :stuck_out_tongue:

Crowbar > everything

Especially with +fastmelee scripts that whip it out at the click of a button and make it eighty times more powerful.

Why not? They’re annoying and they leak colorful liquids when shot.

“you know that you’re hl-fag when…” …you immediately understand what grunt was meant in this^ sentence )

to the topic: foot - cockroach.

I use satchel charges to get the cockroaches.

I usually use shotgun on Alien Grunts when they are in range, but when I replayed in hard mode, it wasn’t so great. Crossbow anytime + Agrunts = effective.

If I had to name the least used weapons for me, I’d say it was a tie between the Hivehand and grenades.

The only time I ever used grenades was when I was trying to take out a stubborn turret.

GET OUT! :rage:

I’m hl-fag and proud
p.s. I use the crossbow on that guy too!

NO U :’(

I used the SMG pretty much exclusively throughout, same with hl2, it was either the smg or the AR2 unless the situation called for the crossbow or something (same with hl1). By the time EP1 came around I got more diverse with my guns and tried out everything else.

No, you!

The hivehand is one of my favorite weapons. I love standing behind a corner and shooting the bugs down a corridor and hearing “shutck shutck shutck MEDIC!”
