Things that get you mad, from history.

I just applied my palm to my face and moved on, as you’d already brought it up.

I was gonna reply to that but I’m not going to, out of fear of being flamed. :frowning:

Is there any real reason for saying this or are you just being annoying.

I don’t know if that’s true, there probably would have been another religion that would have been created to mandate peoples lives.

Not probably, there would be.

That’s pretty much my real reason for posting that, religion has been around forever, and it has been getting less strict over time.

Scientology is the new thing.

There HAVE been things done “in the name of GOD or religion” that really does infuriate me. But I think we all would be wise to include all religions, not just Christianity. Many are where torture or massive human sacrifice are the norm.

Nah, because the Romans still made progress in medicine and engineering, when they collapsed in the middle of the 1st millennium, then almost no progress was made untill the renaissance.

@Whoever said there would be another religion, that may be so, but in Rome religion did not stop progress like Christianity did, and so if Rome never collapsed, then we would have made tonnes more progress.

Except that’s not how stuff works.

“Progress” is the result of what people do, regardless of factors like religion and society. There’s always going to be stuff “holding us back,” but as long as that stuff is remembered in history, it teaches us something and is therefore still “progress,” in a way.

I understand what you are saying, but my point is that if Christianity was the not holding us back (which it was for surgery and anatomy) then we could theoretically be 1000 years more advanced than we are now.

Also, the another thing that annoys me is the way that Rasputin finally died. You would have thought that after being shot, stabbed and poisoned he would have a better death than drowning.

I still take issue with blaming Christianity for all of mankind’s setbacks. Organized religion is more accurate don’t you think?

Yeah, I suppose, I was really just using it as an example, because in the Middle Ages they stopped all dissections, made everybody think that Galen was correct and no progress needed to be made and other things like that.

In modern times, Christianity’s also doing a pretty good job in wiping out Africans. Not the best track record, really.

EDIT: To add to what Jingles was saying, it also held back science in general: look at Galileo (spelling).

Even so, it was more the powers that be that caused all that than Christianity itself. Religion is just a tool at the disposal of people in power to keep people ignorant, and therefore more easily manageable.

Tru dat

There are people on forums that go around with Soviet avatars and nobody has a problem with it. They also talk about how cool / badass / awesome the Soviet Union was. If you went around with a Nazi avatar and said they were cool everyone would hate you.

Well I heard the Russians killed 8 out of 10 of all the Germans in WW2

“Whoever does not miss the Soviet Union has no heart. Whoever wants it back has no brain.” -Vladimir Putin (Also in CoD4MW)

uhhh ok, by “many people praise the Soviet Union” you mean you saw someone on a forum with a Russian-looking avatar. Gotcha.

Well, apparently its cool in some places to praise infamous Nazi war criminals for advancing science and nobody will notice.

But, uh, being serious for a second. There are TONS of WWII buffs online who have Wermacht avatars and constantly praise the Nazi war machine for it’s performance - of course being careful to point out the important and significant difference between Nazi soldiers/generals and Nazis.
I don’t doubt among the same war nerd crowd, there are also those who admire the Soviet war machine for its conduct in WWII. I’m not sure if theres any ideological significance to either group of people. Are they really Nazis/Commies just because they have a nerdgazm over military history?

ffs, Wehrmacht soldiers ≠ Nazis
