The Witcher 3

Picked out some stuff I thought was noteworthy but I suggest reading the rest. I’m pretty excited, especially since combat is apparently being overhauled. And open world too which is nice. This is going to be one of the first truly next gen games too.

Now that sounds cool. I wonder if they have dynamic naval battles or anything of the sort.

I actually have yet to play the first two because I’m broke as fuck. This does sound really cool, though. Especially the apparently flexible and dynamic storyline. Just hope they can go through with it.
Why are open world’s measured in comparison to Skyrim? Is that the Crysis of RPGs or something? I never played it too much.

Awesome sauce, can’t wait to see the trailer, which will arrive today at 7 PM CET(UK 6 PM).

It’s most popular and obvious example of an open world RPG with a big map to freely explore, so that’s why people will compare other game’s open world maps to Skyrim, because it’s the one most people know about right now.

As for the topic: sweet. Can’t wait for more info and medias.

Plus, Skyrim is probably the single most open-world game I’ve ever seen. The entire world is open to you from the start, excluding a handful of dungeons that are quest-locked.

That said, it’s not a very good comparison, because off the back of my hand I honestly have no idea how ‘big’ the world is in Skyrim. The map is so astonishingly shitty (it doesn’t even show roads!) that I pretty much never rely on it for anything more advanced than “my quest is to the south.” You also have to rely on fast travel way too much, because even really minor quests will just point you to the opposite end of the map as a matter of course.

Would it be wrong to call Skyrim the Call of Duty of RPGs?

Get SkyUI & SKSE. It’ll give you a map miles better than the default one among other things including a far better inventory system.

On-topic: Never played the Witcher series, heard good things though. Too broke to buy the first 2.

Never played the others, but this sounds fucking great.

Teaser is out…kind of expected to see more.Edit:and according to
CDPR members/community manager we will see more of it.

Holy shit, man, the teaser is so cool. Look at those graphics and the fight animations. This game is gonna rock. I’m putting in my preorder ASAP for sure.

Huh… Witcher 2 is on sale for 50% on Steam… If only I had money on a card and didn’t know what a BitTorrent client was.

It doesn’t look much more better than Witcher 2 but the highly compressed 720p screens don’t let you appreciate too much of the detail anyway.

Still, that has got to be the best looking open world RPG for PC yet.

The graphics being only seemingly slightly better doesn’t bother me. The world is really large and there’s a lot of freedom with how you approach the story. I’m surprised even that they’re managing to keep and improve on the graphics of TW2 in an open world game.

Wow, the thumbnails look just like fantasy paintings.

They improved their streaming tech a lot, apparently, so I guess they can now maintain a more controlled higher level of detail without going over memory limitations while also providing a huge map to explore without loading screens.

This image of the sailing catches my attention the most

That looks so damn good. Also this one, if only because I want to knock one of those guys off the cliff.

I want to see combat footage so badly, or even any footage at all.

From GameInformer:
CD Projekt RED has provided the screenshots you see here from its current in-game assets running on its Internal PC development hardware. However, the renderer - the part of the engine that translates the game files into what you ultimately see on screen - is still in development and will boast significant improvements by the time The Witcher 3 ships. “Right now you see the game in the old renderer, but it’s going to be taken to a truly next level,” says gameplay producer Marek ZSiemak. In particular, the developers tell us that skin shaders and the dynamic lighting model will be markedly more advanced in the final version.

I don’t know what the fuck people are complaining about, looks pretty good to me. And since those are nowhere near final quality, it’s going to be pretty amazing.

Cool. Cool cool cool.

I don’t know if this is true or not but I hope it is.
