Yeah, that was my first impression too.
But still, a big 28-year-old hunk of a man shot and killed a young teenager, and still the police thought it was self-defence.
I don’t know many scrawny 17-year-old kids that can actually seriously harm a man like that without any weapons, and I don’t see how the police could seriously consider it a clear case of self-defence.
Well there really wasn’t any solid evidence to prove that it wasn’t self-defense and you can’t just go off emotions and assumptions, which is why I’m glad the judge had the jury sequestered.
Well, I would think that if a man was in danger of his life, he would have a bit more injuries than Zimmerman sustained.
If you look carefully at any case involving a colored person, you’ll see that the rulings are usually tipped in their favor. For instance: in Georgia, two African American kids (bout 13-14) skipped school. They ended up attempting to mug an African American women (who had a 13 month old in a stroller) with a firearm pointed at her. They pointed it at the kid after after she said she had no money to give, threatening to kill the child. She said she had no money still, so they shot her and shot her 13 month old child in the face. The child didn’t survive.
The ruling? Attempted mugging, assault, CHILD ABUSE. I don’t remember the sentence, but it was basically a slap on the hand.
I want to see someone like MLK or Malcom X and ask them what they think of society today. Honestly…everything a white guy does to a black guy is racist, but not so bad vice versa.
EDIT: Sorry for the double post. I dunno what happened here o.O
Can we stop using the ‘african american’ euphemism and go back to use ‘black’? It’s not an insult, it’s not a racial slur, it’s just excessive PC.
I believe the reason behind that is they associate Black people with crime and that it’s a normal thing for a black person to commit a crime since it’s a “racial trait” as they put it, isn’t that the stereotype ?
wow, no, please guys, don’t use the old argument of “reverse” discrimination
i’m not saying it doesn’t happen, but it’s definitely, definitely, NOT the standard way of things
I see this over and over again. Privileged people saying discriminated minorities are… privileged. I… I don’t have the energy to bring up more arguments.
If you really believe minorities which have been discriminated for decades, if not centuries, somehow have a leg-up on everyone else (even though the exact opposite is through), I’m sorry but you really need to re-examine the way you form beliefs.
Not to mention it’s a skin color, not a heritage.
a guy stalked and murdered a teenager because he was black in a white neighborhood. some people (read: several fucking tons) are trained to perceive the presence of a black person as a threat.
a black woman got 20 years in prison for firing warning shots to scare off her abusive husband.
Which is why it’s best to stay away from Florida.
I use African American due to the fact that last time I used the word black for a colored person, they tried to beat the shit out of me. And honestly, I don’t look for fights nor care to fight at all really.
Edit: also at Khaney:
That is, it seems, the stereotype. But it’s so much worse coming from a white guy than a black guy when you point it out. There IS some reverse discrimination, I’ve lived in South Georgia for 6 years. Believe me, it exists.
I am not racist. What I am, however, is judgmental. If you show that you think you’re better than me or more entitled to whatever you want, simply because you’re colored and have been oppressed however many years ago, then I will be very blunt and say shut the fuck up. The places I’ve lived where a minority lives as well is nothing more than a racial battlefield. It’s incredibly pathetic for anyone to think they’re better than anyone else, simply because they’re white or black or somewhere in between.
To be honest, I think a reason why the kids got off easier than they should have is because of the fact that they’re under 18, making them minors. Minors tend to get easier treatment, even if what they did was fucking horrible, because the belief behind it is that minors don’t really know what they’re doing or some shit like that.
I do think that it does get seen as worse when it’s a white on black crime though. Had both been black, both been white, or Zimmerman black and Trayvon white, no one, except people living near the area the incident happened in, would have heard about the story. But because a white man shot a black teenager, especially with all the shady crap surrounding it, it all got turned into a national story.
Said black woman left the scene of the altercation, got her gun, then returned to the scene of the altercation with her abusive husband and fired warning shots. I think that’s an important distinction. The reasonable thing to do would have been to just leave the scene of the altercation and stay gone. Even Stand Your Ground only says that you can defend yourself with lethal force instead of fleeing. Fleeing, then returning and threatening lethal force is definitely something different. I’ve been getting tired over the past few weeks of left-wing zealots trotting out this story.
But, the Trayvon thing. I didn’t follow the case closely at all. But basically, Zimmerman was out patrolling his neighborhood as a neighborhood watchmen with a firearm (stupid, but not illegal). Zimmerman then noticed Trayvon, who was walking back to his father’s house in the gated community they both lived in. Zimmerman didn’t recognize Trayvon, and Trayvon was young and black and wearing a hoodie. Apparently, there had recently been a string of crimes in the area. Zimmerman got out of his car and followed Trayvon with the intent of confronting him because he looked suspicious (stupid, but not illegal). While he was tailing Trayvon, he called 911, and the 911 operator advised him (advised - not commanded) to stop following Trayvon. He ignored the operator and continued following Trayvon (stupid, but not illegal).
Zimmerman’s story then goes that Trayvon hid in an alley or something and ambushed him after he noticed he was being followed, and after a brief struggle, Zimmerman pulled his gun and shot Trayvon dead in self-defense. Apparently nobody could dispute the story in court, because Zimmerman was found not guilty of second-degree murder.
Basically, Zimmerman was being a fucking idiot, but not technically breaking the law. So now the hot-topic discussion is on Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, which Zimmerman based his defense on, which is a law basically saying that it’s legal to defend yourself with lethal force right away instead of trying to flee the altercation first.
Honestly, if someone’s stalking me, my first thought is most certainly not going to be “hide in an alley and ambush them”.
Coming from a Florida resident, I think Stand Your Ground needs to be rewritten. It should be called for only when you can’t otherwise get out of danger, like if your house is being broken into or if you’re in an alley with no way out. The way it’s written can allow for murder as long as it’s planned right.
As for the Trayvon/Zimmerman thing, I think it was all a tragic misunderstanding, but that’s just me. Seems alot of shit has been happening here the past few years, first Casey Anthony, then this.
do you guys remember reading about the incident back in 1989 where 4 black kids were allegedly accused of “brutally raping” a white woman and attacked multiple people in Central Park NY ? and how they FORCED the kids to make up a story and get convicted, but evidence showed later that they’re indeed innocent, yet they were still convicted and spent a long time in jail
So I got a half letter from Swedish Armed Forces. Yeah, that’s right a half letter. They want me to download their app(as if my old symbian would be able to do that) and find my partner whom have the other part so that we can solve 5 tasks together… yeah.
Ever since I filled in that mandatory evaluation a year ago(And I mean mandatory, get a fine if you don’t and then another one if you still refuse), which they started with when they removed the mandatory basic military training, I’ve been covered with stupid letters from them. Guess that I’m one of those they really want to have in their forces since my friends doesn’t get bombarded with these.
