The Unofficial Official Chat Thread

It was brought somewhere else. I just decided to share everywhere. I’m an attention whore like that

He might be stoned…

Never. I’m just weird.

That explains it.

TGP being TGP. Expect the next counter in a few months.

I wish I had the attention span to write continuously through days like this.

At this rate, I’ll finish my novel when I’m 50.

You echo my thoughts all too exactly. :frowning:

Reminds me of how I can make a map, nearly finish it, and then just stop because I’m burned out and not come back to it for a while. :frowning:

I suppose that’s why I like modelling things. It’s like making a map but it doesn’t have all the rigorous testing and doesn’t take nearly as much time.

I constantly start doing things in my free time, then I get bored, leave them for a while then scrap them eventually.

I worked on a book for like five years before I realised it sucked.

Only once did I actually get beyond the first page.

Well, I just got a Gordon Freeman action figure
And, yes, I deserve to die

Well, if it isn’t too late for some encouragement: All writers think that their own work sucks. All of them. It’s actually one of the key manifestations of writer’s block.

Also, getting started is the hardest part by far. Even within a story, it’s far easier to resume writing if you stop in the middle of a sentence, rather than at the end of the scene.

I could go on like this for ages.

Sure, but I was like 15 by the time I stopped. I recently dug up the old file and believe me, it sucked.

Since then I’ve gotten a lot of new ideas that I’ve wanted to work with, but my problem is that while I’m pretty good at creating settings, characters and concepts, I can’t come up with a story to save my life. I really just can not.

I am currently working on a script, though. It has the plot of “four people walk for a while and die”.

Make a list of random conflicts and randomly pick one and apply it to a good set of settings characters and concepts and just keep doing this, I imagine that’s be a good way to work on making better plots / stories. I don’t write but if I did that’d be how I worked on my plot writing skills.

I’ve written quite a bit of stuff but it’s mostly short (and I mean short) stories. Haven’t written anything recently despite having some ideas. I can’t get enough stuff to think I could write something a couple hundred pages long though.

Getting critique is the hardest. Not because I can’t handle it, but because none of my friends would give a shit to read it. My girlfriend has read my current project and has given me sufficient critique, but other than that nothing.

I’ve been whoring myself out to different sites, even to our own Show Off, but Pyro’s been the only one to offer any aid. I’ve even stooped to ask Menewsha and Gaia for critique, but nobody has read it because it isn’t about some teen poser-goth’s wet dream vampire lover.

I swear, vampire literature has been in vogue far too much lately. I wish we could get more cyberpunk, or techno-thrillers.

Or better yet, write a vampire novel in which we start with a Bella-esque protagonist for like a chapter or so, falling in love with a vampire, then she dies and the real plot starts. Just as a fantastic “fuck you” to Twilight.

Are there any other games in existence besides Duke3D that have a shrink ray?

I know of a shrink ray in Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters.

What about FPS games?
