The Security Guards and Scientests

You got me there. Either way, it will lead up to C for me, I know that. shrugs

I think the guards should make a “jingling” sort of noise when they walk.
Seriously, countless vending machines and locked doors and not one of these rent-a-cops has any change or keys?

From what I’ve seen, keys have been kinda pointless in a high security lab. Everything uses a retinal scanner, or a Keypad. As for the coins, it’s possible they have dollar bills.

Or you know, they just keep any change or keys they have in a pocket or wallet that’s tight enough not to make it jingle. I know I don’t make a jingling noise when I walk around, even though I have change and keys on me.

It is more tactically sound to make sure all your equipment is secure enough that it doesn’t make noise. You can’t sneak up on somone if when you walk it sounds like a shitty rendition of jingle bells.

we are talking about security guards at a science lab, not clones of Sam Fisher. Stealth is not an inteded goal.

They ate all the doughnuts. Their excess fat muffles the jingling sounds.

Your thinking of Otis not barney

Is it just me or does the Otis on the right look like hitler?

It’s just you.

What he said.

He has a point. I liked the fact that the Combine soldiers’ equipment made noise when they ran - it made it clear that this sort of equipment weighs a hell of a lot and highlights it better than you can with a model and animation, even if it isn’t necessarily realistic.

I think it’s safe to use this with the security guards. They’re not so concerned with stealth, and half the time they would have had to act as technicians. Blue Shift may not be canon, but the portrayal of security guards ensuring the smooth operation of the facility for the scientists seems like an accurate one.
They would have most likely had sets of keys with them. Retinal scanners and keypads cost money, and from what we’ve seen in Black Mesa, it seems that money was spent in selective areas, and the majority of the facility was left with the primitive locks and keys.

I got the idea while doing my job and noticing I made a bit of jingling as I walk around
what with the five keys and about a buck and a half in change I usually have in my pockets.

Does this mean Combine Soldiers are doing it wrong?

I don’t think they really care since they’re basically cannon fodder.

Only for gameplay reasons (and to gordon of course. if I was in charge, combine soldiers would easily slaughter the rebels 1 on 1).

not if the rebels had weapons.

Uhh what?

Actually nevermind, we’re just going off topic.

I personally wish that the HECU had full battle-rattle when running, a la the Combine.

Actually it’s true, Rebels > Combine, 1:1 in most cases except in some flukes. Combine die way too easily.

Anyway, I think a small jingling sound would be okay for Security guards… as long as they don’t overdo it as much as the Combine.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
