I wouldn’t They shoot at targets even if you are between them and the enemy (in hl2 and hl1) and a guard in a vent = you getting shot every time theres a headcrab in front of you.
Except they won’t, because this isn’t HL1.

they even shoot at targets like that in hl2 but sense allies can’t damage you in hl2 most players don’t ever realize it. Its the way the AIs work if there is a target in there line of sight thwy will shoot it even if you are in front of it beating it with a crowbar.
Just hold a physics object at eye level. Problem solved. 
where the hell are you gonna find something big enough in a vent to cover yourself and how exactly are you supposed to move it around - there isnt a lot of space in there

I was referring to the AI glitch that used to make you invisible in HL2. (not sure if it still works) Basically, if there was anything between your field of vision and an enemy they wouldn’t attack. You could make yourself invisible by holding something as small as a can in front of you so that you couldn’t see an enemy.
yes , but i brought up the question about the vents because someone mentioned protecting yourself with random crap in the vents , i also didnt know about the glitch with the AI, never really bothered with leading a squad
I did I usually sent the rebels in to mines just for the ammo and the fact that one mine gone. (half the time they survived)

Some people possibly. But the initial human instinct is to A) Defend yourself, or B)Run away if you don’t know how to defend yourself. Personally my actions lead to B, then failing that C) Get caught and harmed/killed.
I’ve seen people who said, " Oh when this happens I’m gonna do this and I’ll never do this." But when shit hits the fan you never know how you’re gonna react. Hell half the guys talking crap shit their pants the first time bullets started flying. So you can say you’ll run or you’ll fight and you won’t freeze up…but barring the impossible you are really just blowing smoke out your own ass.
