The Horror

In c2a2a; The second map of “ON A RAIL” the first one being an introductory one with a security guard and that scary music “Sirens in the distance” Just as the map starts a horrifying otherworldly screaming is heard ecchoing through the corridors. It is in a series of four spine chilling sounds named the_horror1, the_horror2, etc. One is heard on the aforementioned location on earth, another one is heard in the c4a1f; The level with giant red portal to the Nihilanths chamber. the_horror2 is used in Left 4 Dead when a horde starts.

What creature could make this terrible noise? Discuss.

People being tortured by aliens, deep in the tunnels where the converyor belt in that area leads to?

i actually used the_horror2 in my fan trailer :stuck_out_tongue:

All I know was after hearing it during a recent playthrough, I instinctively ran to a corner to wait for the horde when I thought “Wait a minute, this isn’t L4D, why the hell did I just hear the horde scream?”.

But yeah, the screams in that one chamber on xen are pretty freaky.

Damn! bot quite up to that part yet! Can’t wait then!

The horror in on a rail, it is also in this room with gibs and dead soldiers.

Are there rainbows and unicorns in there as well? XD

I remember that, it reminded me of L4D, and there is a blood stain hand print like you see in L4D too.

Probs where Valve got the idea from

I hope it will be used in Black Mesa.

or maybe something similar (and less like a “haunted house” backtrack).

I found that noise really corny to be honest. If you want ideas for sound effects for a creepy underground tunnel network, take a cue from Shadow of Chernobyls underground labs.

^ ah good example, as i was just playing thru that again. makes me think of the darkened areas with the creepy misspelled taunts sprayed on the wall, and the occasional dead marine.

Yeah, or I was thinking it could replace the corny “horror” sounds in general. Half of what made SoC’s labs creepy as hell the first time were the ambient sounds.

i also think the SoC ambience would fit well in the more derelict facilities like the waterlogged compound where you encounter the ichy, in Apprehension. Especially looking at some of the newer BM shots.

I played the rocket silo chapter in Ep2 last night and tried really hard to pretend I was in Black Mesa. :frowning:

But you are a moderator! You can play Balck Mesa whenever you want.

In the Australian version.

I don’t think it works that way. It’s the devs that have access to the mod not… mods.

Shit… no pun intended.

Nope, I’m just a regular member like you guys, except I can ban you and suppress your rights of free speech.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
