Then I don’t think it means what you think it means.

Why the hell should trolls get all of the general section? Just because people want to have a thread without trolling doesn’t mean we only want to talk about the damn mod.

Isn’t it impossible for a troll to be there first? Doesn’t he have to see all the travelers on the bridge before he can decide to set up his toll booth? Or doesn’t he need to see the innocent posters before he can unleash his flaming fury?

I didn’t think trolls could feed other trolls, if they can… God help us all.

hahaha but unfortunatly for you my poor unwary traveller, you have stumbled upon a troll cave.

tis where we go when were not under our bridges. and therefore you can see how we would be unhappy with people trying to kick us out of said cave.

I see where this line of thinking is going, but allow me to jump in here and state that this forum is not a place for trollsand we are not going to cater to them in any way. While we do have trolls here, it would seem many of them are savy enough to walk a thin line. A line where it seems stupid to ban someone for an off color remark, but as many of you know… even the best of trolls get their judgement.

Good to hear, but the question then lies, does anyone with a post count below 50 automatically fall into the troll category until 51 or is there some other way to distinguish between the two other than hoping.

Even some of the ones on here with hundreds and even thousands of posts had to start a 1 at one point.

It is rough to be lumped into the troll category simply because my post count suggests that I am a troll.

who said anything about a post count?

I think this thread speaks for itself for the most part, but I just wanted to add my observation about a little problem I see with this forum in re: moderation - we have users like Shasta who troll blatantly with every post they make, in the most inappropriate threads (such as this one). No moderation, not even a warning. (edit - correction, i see he finally got a mild warning)
Then we have users like IsolatedPurity who was relentlessly trolled every time he posted - permabanned. There’s something definitely amiss about this situation.

The Iso act was getting pretty old, the way he whined in every thread he made. But I do see where you’re going with this train of thought.

I won’t miss him either, but that’s not really the point. For all I know he said something which justified his ban, it just seemed like a pertinent example. I think Johnkiller118 made a similar point earlier in the thread.

I was generalizing because it seems that is the starting point, from my perspective, of what defines a troll or not and why some with low post counts are considered trolls.

If that makes any sense. I guess I did not make my point clear enough, LOL, and for that I apologize. Happens when you try and do three things at once and accomplish screwing two of the three up.

The post count in my opinion has nothing to do with troll. Your good.

[COLOR=‘Red’]EDIT: I finally found the post that hung Shasta. Sorry it took so long.

I am sure more of us will be on our better behavior, mm?

First post and only post, but the reason I (and many others) don’t post should be pretty obvious.
All it takes is a look down the left hand column on the first page:
“Banned, banned, banned, banned, banned, banned, banned…”.

Somebody mentioned a trolling-only subforum. Sounds crazy, but other large forums have something like this setup and they can be pretty funny to read. I have no idea if it would help what you’re trying to fix, but it’s something to think about atleast.

Examples:

Somethingawful’s “FYAD (fuck you and die)”

Ars Technica’s “Battlefront”, a little tamer

Yeah, I nice little sub-forum where you can get all your anger out on someone and just troll would be pretty cool. It’d be a no-holds barred flame-fest where your post count would not increase and the abuse part of the rules would not apply.

I have no idea what that’s about, but it’s not restricted to people who’ve posted in this thread. I think it’s based on recent posting activity at a certain time last night when a developer seemed to ban a whole load of people for one day. I’m un-banning them now. Done.

Well thanks there old bean! also, Hiya! glad your back.

I should clarify that when I talk about trolls I wasn’t useing the real definition, I was useing what most people here seem to think as being a troll.

going by the actual definition, I think we are a relativley Troll-free forums as anyone who fits that discription get banned rather quickly.

I was useing troll (incorrectly I know) as someone who says something that makes someone else sadface for whatever reason, which seems to be the prefered definition here.

ah yes… I see.

I think one thing that bothers me about posting, is that everyone here stresses reading the FAQ so heavily. And rightfully so, it should be stressed. However,

seem to show a rule against trolling. I think new people may see these rules, see trolls not being persecuted, assume the trolls as some kind of privileged status (old member) and fear stepping on some “old members” toes. That’s my official view, as a newbie. Maybe because I did actually read the FAQ (weird I know!)

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
