Max Payne isnt a trilogy (well, it is, but not plot-wise so much) and the idea that Breen died while Gordan survived doesn’t make any sense, as stated
During the 3 parts of both games, you can consider those parts a story trilogy within the game. But the thing here is that Breen isn’t the main villian of the series. In HL1, he didn’t exist (well, he was called the administrator, but never referred to by name), and it’s very clear from the beginning of HL2 that while Breen is the one who keeps sending the Combine after you, it’s the Combine themseleves that are the real bad guys. Breen was just a pawn in the Combine’s game. He IS the main bad guy to Freeman at first, but only because he’s the only representative of Combine leadership on Earth so far, and it’s clear that he works for something else, and fiction does this kind of thing all the time where you kill one of the Big Bad’s higher ups before going after the Big Bad himself.
Of course, no one knows who even the Big Bad is.
Actually, I see your point here. We don’t actually know who the combine overlords are and we’re also not entirely sure where the G-man falls in to everything. Breen is more of a mini-boss than anything. Hadn’t Breen, as administrator, made a deal with the combine prior to the events of HL1? If so, I would say that the combine are definitely the overall antagonist.
Well he never made a deal that we know of, it’s possible he did to gain more power, but what we do know is that the G-Man supplied Black Mesa with the Xen crystal that started the Resonance Cascade and ultimately led to a Combine invasion of Earth, with Breen becoming the leader of Earth under the Combine. His being a mini-boss pretty much sums his whole existance up.
This guy knows what he’s talking about Pyro, you’re just definitely not getting his damn drift at all.
The Combine OverLord?
Since you know so much, what’s his name?
And how do you know his title is Overlord? He could be a scientist named Gordon Freeman for all we know.
And name me one time in the entire series where a character refers to the leader(s) as overlord(s).
You are correct, it is definitive, at least definitively incorrect.
the rest of the quote is “…huge explosion, then i heard vortigons. the next thing I knew, dog was digging me out of the rubble”
She was reciting her memories in chronological order, it can easily be understood that Breen falling came BEFORE the explosion, that particular fall is the one you see where the sphere he is inside lowers just before the explosion hits. She is NOT referring to him being blown OUT of the teleporter and off the building, nor would she have even been capable of watching what the explosion affected, seeing as how she was removed from it before it could even hit her. Plus seeing as how Breen falls underneath where the explosion originates from, it’s highly unlikely that he could be blown OUT of the building.
Sorry, no. I’ve seen people troll religious groups that didn’t take quotes out of context and then twist the interpretations as badly as you did.
i don’t really see a pair of human eyes on any of the advisors, so while Breen would certainly know what a barrel is, there is absolutely no reason to believe he would know right off the bat how to RECOGNIZE that it’s a barrel with teh senses he has as an advisor. Also, more than being proof that it didn’t know what the barrel was, that demonstration served to show that the advisor was still getting the hang of using it’s psychic abilities, first testing it out on an inanimate object, and then on a corpse, before bringing the actual threat into direct range of physical attack.
I personally don’t see why the combine would have given breen an advisor body, but if anything, the examples you point to make me MORE likely to believe that advisor IS breen.
You expect me to care what you think?
When you first meet Eli in Black Mesa East, he explains that Breen negotiated the surrender of Earth, and in return he was granted the position of Administrator of Earth. It’s possible that he was convinced by G-Man to make a deal with the Combine: he would allow the portal storms to be opened with the Xen crystal, and in exchange he would be given power over the Earth. It would explain how he was able to negotiate the surrender at all - after all, why him and not a world leader or diplomat?
Debates are about logic and reasoning, not about if you get along with your opponents. If you’re going to object to his ideas, then object to his ideas, but don’t just insult him.
[COLOR=‘Black’]Don’t know why I’m bothering to do this on the internet
What a witty retort. Clearly you are the master of intelligent conversation. :retard:
Such Hypocritcal Humour, Dias…
but yes, I do suppose I shouldn’t insult opposing views in a debate, Dias does that enough. Semper Fi.
I looked at this title of this thread and thought, “What a good question. Very cool. Let’s check it out.”

“Okay, wtf is up with these bitches fighting over the internet about something no one is completely certain about and why such ‘asshole’ replies? Get laid plz.”
Actually, I was having an intelligent conversation with others when Grey Acumen decides to cut in with a ‘You’re wrong and I’m right’ type of argument. I really don’t care what he thinks, so Orpheon got the subject semi back on topic.
The point I was trying to make before is that I highly doubt Breen survives that fight. It just doesn’t seem likely, and I figure the Combine would have no use for him anymore because he screwed up so badly.
implying =/= knowing. Like I said: We don’t know, but there’s a big chance it’ll happen.
@PaR: Except Grey didn’t go with a “You’re wrong, I’m right” argument. He/she used evidence to back up his/her claims.
Hey, it’s gotta happen, right? Would be a big letdown if it didn’t. It doesn’t take extra audio commentary to know there’s gotta be at least 1 fight with an Advisor, but there will probably be more. I’m just wondering what other attacks they might have and how you’ll go about fighting them.
As a side note, anyone who thinks the Advisors are the the Combine leaders, think again. Valve has said that the Advisors are like senators in a Roman empire.
Not only do I want this to happen, but I think Breen does survive because why would Valve just finish breen off at the end of the sequel by failure of his portal and its explosion?
I would like to kill him myself with Gordon’s bare hands (H.E.V. suit gloves to be exact), whether it be him in the form of an advisor or in his lil brown suit.
Like I said, we don’t know for sure. I believe it’s gonna happen alright, but I don’t know for sure. It might be that it won’t happen until HL3.
And where did they say that? Just give us proof of them saying that.
Aimed at PaR.
I read it somewhere in Raising the Bar, but did you really think that the Advisors were the masterminds behind the invasion? There’s obviously an Overlord or Overlords running the show. The Advisors are probably, more or less, political or military council to the Overlord(s).
And the reason I didn’t particularly like Grey Acumen’s argument is because it sounded like he/she was insulting me because I THOUGHT something was right. I never said it was the real truth, I said I thought it was definitive evidence. It might not be, but that’s what it is, just a thought.
That means any argument would be a “I’m right, you’re wrong” kind. Point is, it’s not a "I’m right, you’re wrong argument, because he has evidence to back his side up.
And it doesn’t seem logic to me that the Advisors are the political council. Seriously, why would the Combine not make a synth out of them, but do with other aliens?
