The fate and possible survival of Dr. Breen

So what happened to Breen?

I personally believe he was transferred into an advisor’s body. Think about what happens in the EP1 advisor room; a video in which Breen specifically mentions, and agrees to, being put into a host body. (the devs had to have put it there for a reason) Then an advisor appears, is apparently afraid to let Gordon and Alyx see him, and launches an unprovoked mental attack. Futhermore, when you meet that same advisor again in EP2, (he’s the Barn guy) he is apparently inexperienced with his advisor abilities.

It just makes sense to me, but I could very well be wrong, and that’s what this thread is for. Proving me wrong.

Old theory

It’s possible though. I always assumed that all the advisors were unfamiliar with their abilities in ep 2 due to being in isolation for years before “hatching”

But if they were just sitting there for years, don’t you think they would have been taught something?

Plus, we saw the advisors doing things on monitors in HL2, probably from inside their incubation pods. Remember, the only real purpose of the pods was simply to help the Advisors escape the Citadel.

What I meant was they knew how to use their powers but were out of practice (similar to how you may have trouble walking immediately after a long car journey). They had no reason to use them when they were in the citadel.

On the monitors they weren’t really doing much, just “talking”

Since nobody actually has trouble walking after a long car trip, your point is not only moot but nonexistent.

Edit: Besides, we have no way of knowing they spent all their time in those pods, or just moved there for evacuation.

All that matters is that even if Breen did survive, it´s unlikely he´ll ever return, even if his voice actor didn´t die.

Not for long, are you misinterpreting me because as far as I know everyone does (especially if you’ve been asleep)? The barn advisor wasn’t really having much trouble, it was just unfamiliar with its environment that’s why it tried to stab a metal barrel does that sound like Breen to you? He would know exactly what a barrel is and that trying to stab one would be meaningless

But you don’t know for sure that it doesn’t matter. I mean, who knows what’ll happen in EP3?

That’s a good point, but I think being transferred into a completely alien body would be a bit disorienting, particularly combined with a near-death experience. Memory loss isn’t totally out of the question.

The Borealis will be destroyed, that´s what happens.

The voice actor dude is dead and i don’t like advisor-breen actually or alien breen

But that doesn’t mean we won’t run into the Breen-advisor. I mean, we know there will be a few of them, and at least one fight.

if the vortigaunts don’t get the advisors first

I like to think that if Breen returns he’ll aid you against the Combine, although that might be a bit cliché.

Well, he is in contact with the G-man, so you never know what he might do. He’s probably just a bad guy, though.

Actually, we don’t know for sure, because all we’ve seen from Ep3 is concept art, which can change any time. There’s a big chance, I’ll give you that, but we don’t know. Get it?

We don’t know what for sure? You’re being vague.

It took me over a year of playing to figure out WHERE Breen actually was in that final scene. I saw the sphere in the middle of that tower that you have to blow up the top of, but I didn’t realize it was slowly raising up to the top. Nor did I realize that Breen is actually INSIDE of that sphere. I’m sure there are some of you going “no shit sherlock” but if it took me this long to notice, others might be taking even longer.

When you actually blow up the top of the tower in HL2, the sphere that breen is in just sinks back down to the bottom. It doesn’t shut down or go out, so it could theoretically be capable of protecting him from the explosion of the tower.

As for how he comes back. I still think it’s going to come right back around to the material from Raising the Bar:

they don’t really need his voice actor for an advisor reincarnation. advisors are not very good at sharing their thoughts via human speach.

but i don’t think it’s likely to meet him as an advisor no matter how logical this theory is, simply because i think his time is over. gordon killed the shit out of him at the end of hl2. that’s it for the mad dr. breen.

He said it, not me.

He said HOST body, not ADVISOR body, nor “able to function the way i want to” body. That body there would still be enough to handle giving out those Breencasts and trying to regain control over the population.
