The assassins

They should only reveal themselves to fire when the player turns his back. They should follow Gordon around every corner, and pursue him through level changes until Xen. :retard:

Actually that sounds awesome. Maybe not for the assassins… but can the team throw in three or four panthereyes which do this, fleeing around corners when the player faces them but sneaking up to pounce when he’s looking away?

i c waht u did thar

EDIT: Heeeey… how long have I been a zombie?

Since you became one

Ooooooh yeah.

Thanks for those, by the way, Ram.

as you have experienced in Opposing Force, the Assassin’s have been sent to kill any soldiers AND Black Mesa Personell. So I think you could add a scene where you can see soldiers fighting assassin’s (without changing the story too much).
For example you just add a window somewhere and you see both groups fighting the other one.
It was quite illogical to first fighting female assassin’s and afterwards running into a trap made by the soldiers. Well atleast it’s illogical when you know the background of the assassin’s appearance in the game.

Only if you consider Opposing Force to be canon. It wasn’t made by Valve, and Valve hasn’t authenticated the story. Most people originally assumed that the assassins were more elite than the soldiers but on the same team - sent to deal with something other than what the soldiers were doing (such as delivering a nuclear bomb, which the writer has authenticated since it conveniently makes it impossibly to go back to Black Mesa.)

If you put any scene in where the assassins are fighting the HECU, you have to acknowledge the canon issue. At the moment the devs are just trying to avoid it - it keeps both parties happy and you can carry on believing whatever you want to believe.

I guess that’s fine, I just wanted to mention it

I never considered the assassins to be specifically on the same side, as much as they both simply weren’t on your side. HECU were sent in to deal with general cover up, while assassins were called in to deal with Freeman specifically.

That was my take on the situation as shown in HL. Didn’t even consider that there might be more to it until I played Opposing Force.

HECU were also hunting Gordon Freeman, at least in Opposing Force. But I think that the Black-Ops were only sent into Black Mesa to destroy everything because the HECU was unable to cover up. That’s like a virus on your computer which you try to delete with your antivirus system but if this doesn’t help you have to delete your hole harddrive to get it off.

Oh and if you installed that idiotic High Definition Pack for the original Half-Life, the female assassins would be almost invisible because they would be like 80% transparent for some reason. Now THAT was impossible to fight. I hated that, but in the non-high-def-pack Half-Life, it was hard but still not impossible. I wouldn’t mind if they would move slightly slower though, or if their weapons would at least be a bit less damaging. I usually just take the RPG or something with a lot of splash damage and kill them like that, and mostly just run through the level as fast as I can.

The cloak mode of the assassins has nothing to do with the High Definition pack, it’s the difficulty level you play, I don’t know whether they already become invisible on normal difficulty or on the high.

High.

Hey man… how do you turn invisible like that?

“what? I’m not invisible. Are you high?”

Yeah man… so high… oh! hey lookit this… I can pick up this object… without using my haaaands… ooooohh…

Confirmation that the morphine drip is finally getting to Freeman.

lol, awesome interpretation of “high”

I can also drive perfectly without using my hands or feet at all!

No it’s not the force though…

You made my day!

I think it would be a good idea to have the assassins semi-transparent instead of completely invisible. In such a way that you can still spot a blurred shape while they run. And they would only become fully invisible when they are standing still (let say an ambush).

Well, just my feeling regarding gameplay.

guh…

They already do that, except they’re just simply visible when moving and not visible when not moving. That’s only on hard difficulty though. They’re visible all the time on easy and normal difficulty.

Now what would be nice is if they were visible when movine, invisible when not moving, but only transparent while firing.

I pretty sure the assassin were turning invisible “while” they were running (not only standing still). Haven’t played HL:Source, only the 1998 version. They may have changed the behavior.

EDIT: Ok, just fire HL in god mode and check out. They do exactly what I proposed (more or less). They lose invisibility when starting to move and they are not completely invisible (slightly transparent).

Facepalm well deserved!

Will the assasins be able to go “jihad” in Black Mesa? :stuck_out_tongue:

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
